Wheel size with 1-tons

Do the Hummer tires require beadlocks, or can I mount them on any old 16.5" wheel?

Any ol' 16.5" wheel.

I had a set of the old 36" bias plies on some old 16.5" Dodge steelies.

If I go to 37's, 17" rims seem okay. I'm not sure about 17" rims with 35's as far as rubber to wheel ratio. Regarding 16.5, the trick is the wheels. Not many offerings except the Hummer wheels, and that looks like a bit of a pain to deal with. Just reading on line, it seems like people have trouble getting them balanced too. The price does make them appealing though.

Mine came with 16.5x9.5 (11" outside to outside) wagon wheels. Just look for old trailer wheels (stronger) if you don't like the Hummer wheels. I think that's what mine are. Do what makes you happy, I was just throwing out a budget minded option.

Super Duty's use a different bolt pattern than GM's.

FYI- you can buy brand new 16.5's from Summit Racing.

Ok i guess its possible if get some rims off the back of a lowrider, I really didn't consider that.

I just traded my 37's on 15's for 37's on 16.5's no grinding necessary and spares are cheap and plentiful.

Not sure if you are referring to my post about 2.75" BS wheels, but I wouldn't consider them off the back of a lowrider:pimp:. On my 15x8's the outside edge of the rim sticks out LESS than a 15x10 rim with the typical 4.25" BS. I think they look pretty normal and the tires don't stick out extra wide or anything.

It was joke, don't take it personal. I just didn't consider really deep dish wheels.

I didn't take it personal, hence the :pimp: symbol... but did want to clear up what I was talking about.

I'm just learning that 16.5's don't have a standard bead on the tire. I was looking at some Hummer tires and they looked weird, thus my question about bead locks, but I guess it's just the way it is with 16.5s.

No, but 33 is the wrong direction. :D

Maybe so but I'm guessing you could buy them and haul them out to the trail, some kid in a Heep will just have to have them at the unbeatable price of $400 :D

As far as the bead goes, I have yet to run mine but I would assume you just don't want to run them flat on standard wheels. I will know more once I finish getting the new axles in.

16.5's can slip off the wheel bead surface a lot easier than other sizes due to the lack of a bead lip on most non beadlock wheels.
