A little background -

DRW dana 60 i may/may not swap to srw.. If i dont i'll go to hummer rims...

But..
In the mean time...
Let's assume it's a SRW Dana 60 and 14 bolt
What's the better size wheel choice?

I will be running a 37 - 39 inch swamper... 12 - 14 inch wide...

Should i got 15x10 16x?? or 16.5 x ???

Doesnt the 16.5 not have a good "tire bead edge"???

17" rims are the best choice these days. Most tire manufacturers are gonna faze out 16 & 16.5" tires in big sizes. Swampers are about the only real exception.

15" will be viable for many years but probably only up to the 37" range, and anything over 37" will be 17". Plus over 37" with 15" rims will have alot of sidewall flex. 17" will preform better in larger sizes.

P.S. You also asked about rim width. What terrain do you wheel? Do you plan on beadlocking said rims someday? How much street driving?

If you don't want a wide footprint I would do 17x8" rims. This will work well for your moderate footprint, allow you to air down fairly low without alot of risk of blowing beads, and allow you to do weld on beadlocks down the road and still have a 17x9" wide rim.

If you do alot of rocks and not alot of road driving, 17x7" rims for all the same reasons listed above except you will have even less risk of blowing beads and weld on beadlocks will make your rims 17x8" roughly.

It all depends on your needs. If you street drive it more and dont need to air down alot & won't do weld-ons 17x9" or 17x10's will probably suit you well.

The rim with thing goes for just about all rims.

I am currently runnnig 37x12.5x16" Maxxis CC's on 16x6.5 rims. They were free which was a major bonus but I am running 8psi offroad with no problems. If I weld on beadlocks I will be at 16x7.5" wide which wil work very well too. I have 16" rims because I got my tires used so I didn't get to choose rims size. I would NOT run my tires on the street for any significant road miles though. They are VERY crowned out when aired up and would wear out the center of my tires FAST. My truck is pretty much offroad only right now and the only road use it see's is to the parts store 1/2 mile away & the 20ft of pavement it takes to get to my trailer. :D

if ur gona run 16.5's get h1's or beadlocks. i didnt like running 15's cuz they made my tires balloon because of the sidewall, and the 16.5's solved that. plus h1's just look badass in my opinion

I like 17s too. In fact thats what I have. 39.5 Iroks on a 17x9 rim I could run down to about 8 psi all the time if I was having a hard time with traction I would go down to about 6 never blew a bead but I was careful (no onboard air.......yet) Now I have beadlocks. I am running the crager soft 8s if it helps

It'll mainly be a trail rig, with mud.... Not that many rocks in washington...

It will however need to be driven to / from the trails...

so do they make weld on 17" beadlocks (diy4x)
