what would cause a wheel spacer to just knock off the axle and strip all the lug nuts??

i lost a wheel yesterday and it caused me to take off my 1 1/2" spacers

do they need special lug nuts??

my lugs didnt get messed up, but the lugnuts are gone:confused:

That's one of the issues with spacers: you now have TWO sets of lug nuts to check tension on, which is tougher when one is under the wheel.

Like aluminum wheels, aluminum spacers will give a little, and you'll need to check the tension on them periodically. Which means jacking it up, removing the wheel, doing the insides, then reinstalling the wheel and doing the outsides.

When you say the lug nuts are gone, do you mean the inner set for the spacer (where did they go?) or the outer for the wheel (and you wonder why your wheel fell off? :D)

the inner lug nuts stripped completely the spacer is still good, when the wheel was recovered it still had the spacer on it

Did you just cut the top off of acorn lug nuts? There was probably not enough thread engagment on the lug when you cut them off and you just pulled the threads out of the lugs. If you get the proper lug nuts they will have threads all the way through the nut. The spacers I have have regular open end lug nuts and I don't worry aboot them.
