what size hole does the wheel stud go into on a 1/2 ton? and a 3/4 ton" i know the thread size is 7/16" and 9/16", is the hole the same size? bigger?

I don't think it's a simple size. They vary by the thousandths I think, to allow for proper fit. I saw how many variations were in the book at Napa, made my head spin. I can't remember off the top of my head what the size of mine ended up being.

well i may have to spend some time in the parts store looking for a simple size then. its for a tire carrier and i need studs to hold the wheel.

Hmmm...what could you be working on, TJ?

I have a stock axleshaft (14b s/f) sitting in my garage and I can measure the diameter of the holes. I also have about 4 stock 3/4-ton wheel studs sitting around that can be used since I pulled them out of 8-lug shafts and put them into 6-lug shafts.

Do you want me to get some measurements tonight?

i got some 7/16 studs that should work with both the 6 lug and 8 lug, its not like there is gonna be any real force on them, just gravity. the knurle size is .555, i think i will just use a 1/2" drill and move it around to open it up just a bit.
