So I got screwed again by the local parts stores. I'm sick of these ignorant monkeys not knowing how to do anything. Is there any place that sells wheel studs? In fact is there any place that comes with recommendations that I can use instead of the parts stores?

I am within 10 miles, say, of two or three O'Reilly's (used to be Kragen), an Autozone, Pep Boys, two NAPA's, and a local area chain which happens to be really, really good, so much that I rarely go to the others unless I need some little bubble-packed crap they have on the shelf. (One of the NAPA's is almost as good, but 'spensive as all get-out and in the wrong direction, so they're second choice.)

In your case, the trick is to find the good local place. You might check your yellow pages, looking for the wholesale places that the mechanics buy from. My local chain has two doors on the building, one with a big neon sign for us retail folks ... and around the corner, another unmarked one for the jobbers and wholesale stuff. I figure it says something if the local repair shops buy from them.

As for studs, you've lots of options. Dorman, famed for their Motormite and "Help!" brands, likely has what you need. You can prolly mail order them as required, just Google for the specific part #, but first see if they've a local dealer who isn't a chain with counter personnel who are only marginally more clueful than the McDonalds staff.

Oh, I also find it helpful when dealing with said counter monkeys, that you walk in with part #'s. "I need a Dorman 610-193.1", for instance -- it's hard for them to screw that up.

Where I came from I used Carquest, most counter people there were gearheads.

But I think it varies by who works at the different shops more than brand name.

How many you need and what size? I try to keep a supply of a few in my trail parts.

Good advice in the other reply bring it in and compare!!!

Around me I've always followed one group of guys/good friends around. Went from a discount auto parts to autozone. The manager knows the value of his crew and brings them every where he works.

My point is, find a store local or not that has gear heads and/or guys that won't argue with you when you tell them there computer is wrong.

Dremu, I did tell oreilly's the part number, in fact it is Dorman 610-180.1 and they still ordered the wrong ones. When I show up to pick up the parts I find out they aren't right. Then the tool starts taking phone call after phone call and after about 15 minutes I get irritated. He finally gets off the dam phone and starts trying to order the studs. He gets done with that and then proceeds to tell me that he only ordered 11 of the studs when I made it very clear that I needed 12. I got pissed but kept my tongue which was a first.

70jimmy Im pretty sure we don't have a car quest here but I found the studs thru R&L auto down on grand.

Chad your asking the impossible in this town. None of the tools, parts monkeys or oil lickers that work for any of the name brand parts places know crap. They are all fresh outa high school and are dumber than my cockatiel. Least he can say my name right...

Either way I'm taking a break, after hitting my hand 3 times with my hammer I'm done till I can cool down and stop throwing things. Dam I forgot how much that hurts!

Ah, well, then that's grounds for doing business elsewhere, yeah. I call it "voting with dollars"; if they are incompetent, they don't get my $$.
