I was wondering who here is putting together wheeling rigs and who is putting together eyecandy? I'm shooting for a nice piece of eyecandy that looks like a wheeling rig. I'm not able to post pics of mine yet due to lack of posts.

I have a buddy at work who has an '85 Jimmy with a '89 front end. If I can talk him into it, I'll get some pics and post them here. His rig was built to be eye candy and it does not fail to deliver.

Oh yeah, I hate winter. I can't do stuff to my Jimmy right now because I don't have a garage yet.

Mine is going to be a good mix. Not a true mall crawler eye candy machine, but not a hardcore trail rig either. To me I don't see a point in having a vehicle that looks pretty and can't be used for anything. That shouldn't be taken as an attack on those who choose mall crawlers, just not my cup of tea. Welcome to the site, yes I know you started a while ago, stick around and you may find you enjoy it.

Where in Utah are you? We have a few members from the state, and I have met a few as well.

I live in Ogden. The truck my friend has would qualify for a mall crawler if there was no dirt at the mall. He's very meticulous (sp?) about it. It is a thing of beauty.

On the other side of the coin guys who take a nice rig out and Intentionally beat the crap out off it because thats "hardcore" dont make much sense either. I love to wheel and I love to wrench and I like to drive Old iron that looks good........which is why i have so many projects . I say take the beaters and build the off-road rigs and keep the nice trucks nice

yellowK20, I found it difficult to read your post due to your profile pic.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I am building mine as a very nice vehicle. Many would most likely look at it as a mall crawler, because I am doing nice paint, little lift, and a custom interior. On the other side though, I am also doing 3/4 tons, 35's, a 383, and hopefully a Lomax 205 kit. I won't be out beating it to death, but I won't be sticking just to the roads either.

Riven, there are a couple members in the Ogden area, one of which I have met. My whole family is from Ogden, we own property up Ogden Canyon, and I spend a lot of time up there. I will be up there this Friday in fact, although since Krusty is needing me to rebuild her trans, I most likely won't be taking her with me.

Quick question about pics, how many posts do I need before I can see/post pics?

Mine is more eyecandy but i could wheel it if the price was right! Big price though, i have too much time and money in it to beat the crap out of it so I am with yellowk20 on keeping the nice ones nice! I cringe when I see the new build threads as it usually leads to hacking up a nice rig, but hey to each is own, thier dollar their truck! I am holding out for my dads 86 SB K10 to turn into the beater!!!!!

My truck is completely function over form, and I think theres quite a few people that would agree with that on here.

To be blatantly honest and I really dont mean to be a dick to anyone in specific but wtf is the point of building a lifted, 4wd truck, with big tires if your gonna drive it on the ****ing road?

I mean I totally get restoring a truck and maybe throwing it on a small lift and 33-35in's to give it a better look and driving that street only. But I mean come on some freaking guys with their 38s-44s, lift that puts you in the ****ing lower stratosphere and then chromo all over the place just to go get groceries :doah: Thats retarded.

If I were gonna build a nice truck for the street, it would be a freakin 2wd street truck damn it...

Now dont get me wrong I totally understand guys that wheel their trucks but dont wanna go draggin body panels and stuff like that though.

how about actually getting to the trails, etc?

general rant....

a "trail only" rig is fine if you have places to go trailer it to... thats saying you want another investment into a towrig and trailer, I don't... be nice, but I wanna drive my truck too... they are after all vehicles... if I wanna pick up lumber, stop for a slurpee then hit a mudhole on the way home, so be it...

why is "4 wheeling" like sooo many other interests... skaters are the same freaking way, one extreme or another, well, actually skaters are worse... tell ya what, I hate guys who act all "hardcore", in any interest.... threads like "who actually wheels" are friggin ghey......

I can totally appreciate eye candy. Some styles dont really work for me but seeing 20 to 30 year old trucks in top form is always nice be it a mild restore or full on show truck. On the other hand I appreciate function as well. I do hate hearing "oh what a waste of dana 60" on anything that isnt crawling.

Well Said, I like to drive mine too I have a couple of Trailer queens in my stable , and I do have beaters....... and I do have what many would consider "mall crawlers" . but I'll wheel any of my 4x4's I'm just very carefull with my nice trucks

And as far as "wasteing" Dana 60's...... I have Mixed feelings I like K30/35's and V3500's and I hate seeing them cut up just for there axles, But screw it I like to have the extra beef

sweet rig 70jimmy...did you fab your bumpers? Do you have sketches or dimensions for them?

thanks!

Bumpers done by Hartley Truck and tubing (Metal Melter) on CK5, Tire carrier is DIY4X. 2" DOM Tubing with what started as rectangular metal on both front and rear bumper and cut to what I thought looked good.

No sketches or dimensions but I could measure and I have plenty o pics.

PM me if you want more so I don't clog this thread or you can spend some time searching, roll cages, bumpers and find all you need about my junk.

I like the look of a nicely built mall crawler... That's my intention for the crew cab...

But, a wheeling rig on our trails up here will never be nice looking... The blazer is built to get the piss beat out of it... These trails are really unforgiving...

The trailer thing comes with pros and cons... Yeah, you can't drive something like my blazer to the trails, but you can hit the hard lines without being afraid of not making it home...

I would like to find a nice full vert and build a mall crawler out of it... The wife and kids used to love riding around on the weekends in the 4runner with the top off...
