The local group went out to 600 Acres near Solon IA for one last outing before it closes on March 1st. On 2-2-06 it was 50* and sunny and on our wheeling day it was:

So it was a cold and windy day of wheelin'.

The sub-freezing temps made the ground hard and the mud non-existent unless you broke through the inch thick ice on the standing water. Regardless, we had fun and ate well afterward.

Here are some various pics:

One of the guys who went with that day put together a couple of vids. Check out "Solon2" and "Ben thinks he can fly in the tank":D :D :D

In the "fly" clip you can hear wear I tweaked my steering. After that, I had to make my drag-link longer so I could turn right. Anybody have any idea why? Did I "jump teeth" or something in the steering box?

so now the question is...why are they closing?

Long story, but here is the Cliff Notes. The land is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. They have recently granted a lease to the Iowa DNR to manage the property, much to the dismay of MANY local wheelers. The DNR feels that it is unsafe to have ATVs and moto-cross bikes on the same land as fullsize 4X4s even though there has never been an accident involving the two types of vehicles. The ATVs & bikes are the ones that fly across the dirt at WOT, the trucks are usually traversing at a snails pace.

The DNR of course gets much revenue from the ATV guys because the ATVs must for pay a yearly sticker to legally operate them. The DNR get $0 from the trucks.

So, the DNR is setting rules and restrictions that go into effect on March 1st to exclude the trucks and make it illegal to wheel there. Now Iowa has 5 public ATV parks and the trucks?.......well they are left with ZERO public places to wheel.

I guess that was kinda long.:D :haha: :haha:

hey ben that happened to me last year. it was the center pin broke and let the axle slide on the spring, we had to "jerk" the axle forward to get it back to the lot, it was cold and raining. so take a look at it cuz it sucked when i was stuck in the park and could not turn. it was a long day

Iowa, the state with NO public place to wheel a F/S ohv. What a crock of ****.
