trying to get a discussion on what you think is the best wheelbase for your type of wheeling using a squarebody platform?
is it the blazer, short bed, long bed, crew cab, suburban? which is best for Moab, Colorado wheeling, desert camping?
why do you like your platform and would you change it if you could?
 
I think the overhang on the rear is the biggest worry

on the 72, it had the rear pushed back to what the later years had for wheelbase, 108” in think. It was stable enough to not be a concern. For being short, didn’t like how it turned. Was also using a Cherokee steering arm and a Detroit in the rear
What I didn’t like? Seemed to double whammy a lot.

On the long bed I’m at 135”. The turn radius has gotten me in a few places. Have not had to side pull to get out. Have had to do the Austin Powers routine a few times. It climbs better, sometimes the front will push over before the rear hits. Also rides better overall. I’m curious how 120” would work

Ryans 137 is an unstoppable hill killer but bites at wolf caves. Belly draggin ho.
My slightly stretched blazer is choice for my slow overweight type of crawling here at trees ranch, k2, and wolf caves.
If I built some rig for moab specifically it would be longer than I have now.

Mine has some decent belly scratches, but it is somewhat low slung

What is your blazer wheelbase?
 
Uhh 114 comes to mind. Flipped 56s and some stretch in the front. Not alot.
It gets bellied up but not so much so that its stuck. Its on 42s also, but sx2 so more like real 39s lol

I'd like to have the rear cargo area stretched about 18" and the wheelbase at 120" or so, so I could run a longer trailing arm setup and sleep in the bed. (I'm 6'4") but that'll have to be another time.
Right now I'm 1.5" forward on the front and 1.5"+ on the rear and it handles really well for me. So far it goes down the highway at 75 and has taken me down trails I didn't think it should have. I honestly think it's perfect for me like it is and will be even better when the rear is done.

Don't kill me but here's a Bronco with similar specs I'd shoot for on the K5 if I had the dough. The white one has the stretch and 120" wheelbase.

Edit: One note that I think is important is I have not run a stabilizer since the ORD coil over upgrade. Zero wobble and tracks excellent.

My experience is somewhat limited but watching the rigs at BB it seemed to me the swb trucks looked pretty good for all around trail use. I could never find it again but I distinctly remember reading Stephen saying he felt the same way. So 117.5 ish.
 
Like has been said, belly height plays a huge roll. All I can say is I know what I've done with my rig. Started off at 112-ish on maxxis 40's. Went to 114, then 116 and maxxis 42's, and now 118 on 42's with the same belly height of 24" on what is close enough to a 3 to 4" lift. I'm as long as I would want to go with that belly height for Colorado. As the tires have worn I find myself tapping the belly much more.
