The 1972 K5 has been collectable since the 90s.
The 73-91 K5, with such a wide production run... maybe add 20 years to the model year and then it becomes collectable.
With this logic a 2001 Silverado should be collectable as it is over 20 years old now. I see some low millage examples selling for a premium. These are so common and I often see them on the road still. Todays trucks are not really built like trucks anymore with so many added luxury features. The simplicity of the 99-07 classic seams like days gone by. Yet it does not seam like all that long ago.

The 01-07 trucks are very sought after at least in the SE.
K5's became collectable with auctions and online places like BAT running up the prices of squares

2 years ago I moved from Los Angeles to New Brunswick Canada and I have had dudes stop me and ask if I was interested in selling my 2005 Silverado. In the Mid west and Northeast while driving thru I had guys asking at gas stops if I wanted to sell it. They are definitely becoming more popular.

That and people don't want to spend 70K for a new truck. The 99-07 trucks were built so well. They are still modern looking and function as a truck should.

This is what I keep posting. The outrageous prices of new trucks makes spending too much on old ones seem reasonable in comparison.

All the high prices go back to financing. Make people save money and today's new trucks would be $20k.

Trucks have just been hyper-marketed to the masses for quite a while now. There are plenty of videos on youtube that will explain why. But from a financial standpoint, they are the manufacturers' cash cows. They make very little money on some of their other models and the truck sales help subsidize those low margin vehicles. That being said, if trucks were to start coming down in price, some other vehicle would have to displace them in terms of popularity and overall demand. Sounds fine, but the marketing tactics behind that would include you. Like it or not, you'd have some part of your brain itching to buy a full size sedan for whatever damned reason.

I think it’s because some people who now have adult money are buying the things we wanted when we were younger. Chasing nostalgia. The whole story of “my parents had one just like it when I was growing up” is common. People searching and actually finding their dads old truck. I think people are just looking for a feeling of simplicity like they had before.

The modern vehicle works for 80% of people but the remaining are just turned away entirely by modern vehicles as a whole. We hate everything about them.

Screw these new cars where they can be controlled by the auto maker.

The GMT800s are the best balance of simplicity, modernish styling, use ability, with modern enough conveniences all while being pretty reliable and easy/cheap to fix or repair.

I think with the square bodies, the 67-72s became too expensive because they objectively look awesome and that priced people out of that market so they moved to the next beat thing, the square body. Then the squares started getting older and harder to find in good shape so prices started going up on the good examples which raises prices on all squares. The same thing is already starting to happen with the GMT400s. Give it 10 years and the 800s will start to become collectable
