where do i find the engine codes on the engine

where do i find them? do i have to pull the motor? or can i just take the alinator and power stearing pump off? or is there another way to find them

does anyone have a picture it where the code is i have looked where some sites say but i cant find anything

I don't bother with anything but the suffix code. The location chart that was linked shows where it is.

Passenger side front of engine, visible as you look down on it from above. Where the head meets the engine block there is a flat pad with stamped in (not cast) numbers. They aren't real big, and might be obscured by crud.
