The small push in retainers that hold the cowl down are not available anywhere. Any recommendations?

Just a thought, I see the same *idea* used on modern cars all the time, holding on plastic pans under the engine, etc., has anyone tried making some of a more modern style work? Hole in the truck looks large enough for some of them to fit.

Something along these lines, but I've seen different styles that might work better: http://www.autobodysupplies.com/gm%20plastic%20Nuts%20&%20Grommets%20Page2.htm

This is more of what I was thinking of, just remove the screw portion? http://www.aliexpress.com/item/automotive-nut/536271737.html

Yeah any parts place will have assorted packs of the plastic retainers. Something will fit, or fit good enough.

Is the plastic piece from a late model? Don't think I've ever had one.

'81+ AFAIK, it's part of how the cowl "cover" (the slotted grate piece that was part of the hood from '73-80) is retained.
