Hopefully I think I may have gotten off a little easy here, when I finally got to looking at it, I've never really messed with a transfer case before. So of course i'll be getting a new driveshaft, u joints, and fixing the wires to the speedo, but what about the np241.. I was able to drive it home in 4 wheel with out the rear driveshaft.. Shifted fine, everything went smooth.. I was thinking I would just need a new tail housing for it. the part that has the four bolt holes.. slap that on, add some gear oil, and see where it goes from there.. Is that what the metal piece is actually called? the tail housing? also is there anything else in particular i should try again before I try running with the tcase again?

You pretty much have it figured. Look for damage/wobble on the output splines. Same thing happened to me a while back.

You might just want to drop the case and install a SYE. Your situation totally justifies it and the SYE kit is new output shaft, tail housing, etc and you need a new driveshaft anyway......... I wish i would have just done that when mine went pop.

alright man thanks for the help.. hmm so maybe I should look into and sye huh?? what are the benefits??

no slip yoke at tcase.

no slip yoke seal leak like 98% have .

bolt on yoke so you could remove drive shaft if bad from damage and drive home safe in 4wd .

better drive shaft angles from longer shaft .

yes there is a seal on the end the drive shaft slides on. and the housing to main tcase body is just a thin film or form a gasket like ( great stuff ) form a gasket.

The best advice I've read today.
