In need of a new 2wd steering box for my 91 Burb with crossover. Had a sketchy incident this evening with the box sticking at full lock when pulling out onto a main rd. Luckily no one was coming and I had to back up to get the box to "unlock". I had the box in my crawler and was beat on pretty hard. Where is the best place to get a replacement box?

I know this has been asked a million times but my search skills suck on here. I've heard the local parts store rebuilds are junk, so what are my next options?

Cardone?
AGR?
PSC?

I have a "un stickered" cardone box i got from Rockauto. It didnt have the sticker on it due to over production so i ended up scoring it for $50 no core. They may still be on there....

I wasn't aware that ORD sold PSC boxes. I'm looking at the economy rebuilt assist ready box for $386 shipped. Anybody have any experience with the rebuilt boxes from ORD?

Damn thats expensive. I tapped my sector shaft cap and bought the DIY end cap and got the reman box for $85 total.

I have the JKW end cap and tapped the top cap on my box now. Problem is, when I tapped the top, I removed sector shaft and messes up the adjustment I think. My box is probably good just needs to be adjusted properly. I would rather just replace it since it on my Burb now, which for now is a street queen.

I keep hearing bad stuff about reman parts store boxes

Hmm i moved the sector shaft around quite a bit because i was too lazy to take the box off the frame. I counted my turns though so i was ballpark when i put it back together.

Ive heard the rumor of reman box problems but the insides are no different than any other box, it really comes down to seals/bearings i think but ive not had any problems with mine and i just went over the rubicon a month ago. If its good enough for that im confident in it.

Then again i got my box from the manufacturer who made them or remanned them for cardone so im not sure of autozone's quality but im quite sure autozone or any parts store wouldnt take on rebuilding the old boxes....there likely cardones or one of the major reman companies.

I think I am going to get a box from NAPA for $160. They indeed have a lifetime waranty, but hopefully won't have to use it. If It was going on a crawler, I would probably spend the extra on the PSC box.

Thanks for everyones input!:waytogo:

I need one for my K30, I plan to just get one from my local Carquest dealer. $127.

Rebuilds from chain stores tend to be cardones including napa.

Go with the best price/ warranty combo.

Picked mine up at oriellys and has been just fine.
