I'm starting to look into putting decent system in my 95 dually. I have no idea where to even start looking. Is there a place online with the best prices or is it better to find a shop locally? I'm looking for the whole shabang....head unit with dvd video and mp3 capabilities, speakers for the whole cab, and amp(s)

also are there any suggestions on which units to go with or stay away from?

Crutchfield has some really good prices online. I would go to a local shop and have them suggest what they would do. Then figure out what you want to do because obviously they are going to try to make you spend as much as possible.
I bought all my stuff local. If you can wait I would suggest buying right after Thanksgiving when there is alot of good deals.
Pioneer makes some sweet HUs. I would shop around though and see what you like.

I have had good luck with JVC, Alpine, and Pioneer head units. Alpine seemed to be the best performance wise, but the buttons are a real pain to deal with for me. Just a bit small on their button design. My Blazer and my Safari are running JVC's currently, and they have performed well.

Sonic Electronix on the web at www.sonicelectronix.com seems to have pretty decent prices, and their service has been pretty good as well. I have found good deals both online and locally, so I can't say that either is really better, but local shops usually are more helpful if there are any issues.

I've always used Crutchfield. Their prices are decent and if you buy a head unit and speakers or get in on one of their deals you can literally get everything you need for the work including detailed instructions. Check out their scratch and dent, returns, and clearance sales. My dash speakers on Big Ugly are from those sales and lord knows what was wrong with them other than being $10 cheaper!

That said I've always had crappy luck with local places where ever I've lived. I'm just unlucky that way. Thinking I'm a fool just because I walked through their door, trying to push higher end stuff on me, trying to DMWBS (Dazzle Me With BullShit), trying to get me to pay 20% more than Crutchfield just because "we're local" etc etc etc. Also seen some SHODDY work like my former coworker's Grand Am where myself and another coworker had to fix the ground, power, speaker wiring, and then discovered they downsized from Monster Wire to much smaller electrical wire under the carpet on his car. This was after he paid $500 just in install fees.

However if you have a local place that charges good prices and is honest, by all means use them. Support the little guy if they actually try to be competitive.

I have used Sonic Electronix quite a few times, actually they are the only place I have ordered anything audio/video from in the past several years. I've had positive experiences each time and they always seem to have the lowest price. Crutchfield has always seemed very expensive to me compared.

Are you looking for a flip out screen or double din? We have a Kenwood flip out for around $600 but I could probably get that down a little. Shoot me a PM. My shop carries JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer and Eclipse for head units. We also carry JL Audio, Eclipse, Kicker, Morel and Hybrid Audio Tech. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some pricing. We are as competitive as we can be and I have authorization to give out discounts to members here.

Millionbuy.com is a very successful and reputable ebay power seller's website. I've used million buy over a dozen times without any complaints ever. I prefer Pioneer for radios, they have the most features, most reliable from my experience with every brand and good value. Alpines are great to if you prefer them or Kenwood. How many speakers you looking to put in, amps, give me some price ranges and I'll make some suggestions...

I've seemed to have foud nthe best price at Sonic Electronix. but it's still only been a few days of on and off searching. But they are the cheapest so far.
