I need to find a 3rd pinion bearing and the spindle lock washer thingys for my '78 14BFF.

I found the bearing on LMC for $30 (probably genaric) and a few other places for about $40. No luck on the washer - every place I've checked only has parts for the newer key style locking setup. I wouldn't mind going that route, but I'd need all new spindle nuts and they are pretty spendy.

I'd like to get them both from the same place to save on shipping if possible.

Just to clarify, the lock washer I am looking for is on the right. It keeps the spindle nut on the left from spinning.

Full floaters are great. If you brake the axle the wheel doesn't come off. But if your lock washer doesn't hold your spinle nuts on, you can loose a wheel.

I would prefer to find new ones if possible, but I may just have to get a hand full of used ones and cherry pick the best two. Just want to do it right while it is apart.

Any ideas on the third pinion bearing?

Actually, I bought a gear install kit too. I guess I should have mentioned that. However, I installed it in my first 14BFF before I noticed the spindle was toasted. Now I am swapping everything over to my other 14BFF (Diff, bearings, pinion w/ pinion support, axles, etc.). The only problem is that the third pinion support is pressed into the housing. I am afraid it will be damaged if I try to pound it out and press (pound) it into the new housing. Everything else should swap right over with no problems.

When my dad rebuilt his he was having a bit of a problem finding those locking pieces as well. When I talk to him next (should be later today) I'll find out which store got it for him.

I'm thinking it was either Napa or Carquest, probably Carquest. (they have a store in their warehouse here)

I replaced mine with the pin style Dana 60 nuts and lock tab. I did it this way because they were not expensive and I only need 1 socket for both front and rear axles now.

Well, according to the guy at O'Reilly, I bought the last one in the system for the whole chain. Still looking for another for the other side.

I also wound up ordering the 3rd pinion bearing from LMC - $30 (and probably generic). Not ideal, but whatcha gonna do? It will be better than reusing the used one or beating the "new" one out of one housing and into another.

 just so happens that I work there and if thats what the guy told you he is full of it, or retarded. if you take them that part number they should at least be able to order them. we've actually got some in stock here.

as far as the pinion bearing goes, you should be able to find the bearing at oreillys too. might have to take it in so they can get the numbers off of it but they should be able to get one.

He was probably just feeling lazy so he pulled out the BS. He said that none of the other stores had one and the warehouses were out too. I asked about ordering it, but he said they only order from the warehouse (not the supplier directly). It seemed kind of odd that I would walk into the O'Reilly's that had the last spindle lock washer on earth. Oh well, I just get to pay $9 to have somebody ship me a $2 part again. Actually - even better- I get to pay $9 to have somebody ship me two $2 parts when I only need one (min order qty).

Well, the good folks at autopart.com took my order and then emailed me back a couple days laters saying they "don't currently have that part and can't even get in by special order". Hmm, why to they list it on their site and take orders for it then?

Big Dan, if I send you some money, could you send me one?

I feel funny reusing the original ones or used ones - to my way of thinking, they are like cotter pins - use once and throw out.
