At some point im going to be trying to find a forst service suburban to buy for a project. Where would you go to try and find one for sale? Im assuming some kind of government web site, but what one? Im looking for pre '92 like this,

Im thinking those havw most likely been sold to the public already. I have seen alot of newer stuff auction. Burbs included

Our local USFS headquarters has auctions almost annually. I'm not sure if they post them on the web or if it's just local advertising, but may be worth a visit to your closest USFS office to see if they have any info on upcoming auctions. :dunno:

a bit old school but keep an eye in the classifieds (paper) also. local govt sometimes post these auctions in the "notices" section.

USFS has auctions just like with any other government vehicles but Im not entirely sure how the public would access them. I am a contractor for the forest service so I usually get a list of what vehicles are going up for auction and most of them are newer. I try to keep an eye out for older trucks but most of what is on the lists I get are 2000-up.

When I go back to work on Tuesday Ill talk to my boss who is FS and see if there is a website you can go to and find the auctions. I know that we have had some stuff from our site go up on auction and had people from as far away as Egypt come pick stuff up.

Im not a big fan of that green anyhoo. Just a regular custom deluxe should ne easier to find

Manual trans or auto mitch?

Really all I'm after is something 3/4 ton, 4x4, brown interior, a/c, fuel injected, non electric doors, barn doors, vinyl mat, and no rust. That's it.

Both awesome trucks! The 99 is bad ass, but i have to stay square. The 89 would work just fine.

Just do a SAS on the 99. Then you'll have comfy seats and better heater controls...

Its a nostalgia thing. Its got to end up looking like the suburban version of chiefbrody's blazer.

That green one, I'm not sure, but it looks Border Patrol green. BP green is lighter than FS green and more of a lime-green. Not that it matters. Depending on the location, a BP vehicle will be beat up more. A FS vehicle stays on a dirt road more. Whereas, BP vehicles tend to stray onto and also off, trails more.

I have a US Fish and Wildlife Sub...I think. It was tan and the PO thought that it came from the BLM. I don't remember BLM having tan vehicles, but I know that US FWS did. Mine has, now, 190K on it. 4=speed and 3.42 gears. It was just what I was looking for....locking hubs, a straight axle and a lever on the floor to grind the transfer case and not a button. I saw it in the Thrifty-Nickel and gave the owner a call.

I plan on keeping it a long time.

Needs to end up looking like this, (this is the actual truck im "replicating")

But it needs to look a lot more like the chief,

But it needs to have the "feel" of mosesburb's truck. So take the original 73, chief's truck, and Moses' truck and mash them up. Thats the truck i intend to build as soon as i get a house with an actual garage/shop.
