Where can I find a new fuel tank sending unit for my 1982 Blazer 6.2L Diesel (31) gallons?? I've searched every where, even gastanks.com

I think a better question is why isn't an '84 sender interchangeable with the '82? The wiring would be the same, the gauges are the same, did the emissions change in '84 somehow for diesels? Is there a different strainer used?

The GM part numbers that gastanks.com lists is still valid for some applications, but not the '84+ K5 Diesel.

I'm not a diesel expert, but I don't see why a later sender wouldn't work. It should certainly fit the tank physically.

Oreilly Auto parts, at least I have a listing for them. Looks like your in texas so their should be one near you. I show a listing for a drivers side tank and a passenger side tank. #'s are FG05k and FG05l. Hope that helps

Actually I called them, they dont have it either. My tank is in the middle of the "bed" between the rear wheels.

You can order off Autozone.com I just checked. Or you can have them order it at the store. $102.99

Heh, missed the blazer part. Let me get to work tomorrow, provided I dont' brain fart it of course, and check our paper catalogs, hate to say it but our computer system isn't very good and doesn't list a lot of stuff. So if you get a lazy or not very knowledgeable person on the phone they may not check that. We list the tank for that application, and it's the same manufacturer that makes our sending units, so it would seem weird not to have the sending unit as well. Oh hell, already brain farted I'm off tomorrow for the holiday, I'll try and remember to check tuesday.

Question. Is there a difference between a the diesel and gas sending units? I show a listing for a 31 gallon tank in 82. Also from what I can see the 84 unit will work, though not one hundred percent positive.

Not sure if a gasser will work, but Ive email a couple of sending unit sales places and they all reply "We do not have a source for the year and model you need" !!!!

I *suspect* the difference in diesel vs. gas senders is simply the EVAP vent line. I'm not positive of course, but all I can think of is that diesels at some point started using a vent line as well.

Really need a person with a diesel sender to take some pics or something so we can compare.

no picture but...

My diesel has an extra wire on the sending unit for the "water in fuel" light sensor...I "tested" my gauge by plugging in new sender I had for a gas tank I never installed, and it worked perfectly when I moved the float up and down(I then knew my gauge worked, and traced wires, found a chafed and corroded wire under the cab--so it wasn't the sending unit!)...

I suspect a "gas" sending unit will work the fuel gauge OK--just that you will no longer have the "water in fuel" light anymore..I'm fairly sure my diesel has more hose connections on the sender than a gas one does, but mine has dual tanks, not sure if thats why..it does have a "return" line, plus a "siphon" line so you can drain out water in the tank,in addition to to "feed" line.. ..

Thats not for a diesel is it???
I dont see where it says what size motor it fits!!

yes.

You enter your vehicle in when you enter the website, I entered in your specs. That's what it came up with. Use the "choose vehicle" link in the top left corner to enter your truck.

OK that makes a lot of sense.

Water light and siphon fitting is on the diesel sender.
