Looking for one for my '84 K5. The junk yards here only have modern vehicles, no older stuff. I posted in the WTB section as well.

There weren't any for the trucks.

Only ones I'm aware of that GM made are from the mid 80's Oldsmobile 442's (maybe the H/O as well, can't recall) and some of the F-bodies, both of which are low profile and pretty restrictive from what I've seen of them.

It's a lot easier to take two stock truck air cleaners and add a snorkel.

It's also pretty pointless, I noticed no increase in mileage or performance from doing so. Getting the "tall" stock air cleaner is a good step IMO however.

IIRC some of the Vettes had them, and you will pay through the NOSE for such things.

OTOH, it's easy enough to make one. As mentioned, it's prolly not necessary ... I did mine more as a fun project than out of any real need, and that's for a pumped big block (~450hp, 550+ tq).

The other thing is to run a cold air vent if you don't have one already. I did this on my '74 and she idles SOO much better now, 'cuz the air going in isn't preheated by the engine. I figger even one reasonably sized and plumbed snorkel is better than the original.

I have NOT managed to do it on the big block truck above, partially out of laziness but also because it's that much harder to plumb TWO snorkels.

That link show how to make one out of some stock single snorkle ones. The duals are found on VIN H (IIRC) 3rd Gen F-bodies. But I doubt you'll find one in a junkyard (air cleaner..not car). Of all the F-bodies I've owened/scraped (I've got the tiltles to 24, plus several I didn't have title to), I've only come across 3 OEM dual snorkles. Most get tossed in favor of an open element, which is a bad thing on these cars but thats another topic.

The good thing on the '81+ trucks is that the knockout is already on the core support for the drivers mounted snorkel. Simply punch it out and add the plastic piece that the air intake tubing mounts to. If you set your air cleaner up like Dremu shows, I believe the stock air intake piece from the passenger side will "drop in".

It was definitely noisier than stock, it sounded just like flipping the air cleaner lid when I stomped on it.

I've looked at that too and there are knockouts in the rad support, but you would have to flip the plastic piece upside down or something in order to use it (and then how do you connect it to the air cleaner?). Did any '81+ trucks use a driver's side air inlet?

Anybody pull out that thermal valve that connects to the exhaust chimny? I think that would add a bunch of flow capacity.

Jeez, they have a web page to tell you to cut the tube off one aircleaner, cut a hole, and attach to the other aircleaner? :haha:

Then pop rivet or spot weld, and if you're a nut like me, JB weld the gaps and holes and sand until they look nice...

and Rustoleum hides many sins :haha:

Anyway, I know I'm off-topic, but I hope that folks searching on dual snorkel air cleaners would find these pix =))

I *think* that the top/bottom of the air cleaner snorkel is the same. From the pics it looks that way. The snorkel itself isn't but a slip fit on either end, so no worries there.

My understanding for '81+ is that the drivers side was only used for the straight 6 trucks, which would probably be worthless for a V8 app as the tube is probably angled differently, and a different length.

It'll bolt to the carb, but I doubt the end of the plastic air intake tubes will fit, and I'd be surprised if that wasn't worth some $$ to someone with a 3rd gen.

I would sell that air cleaner before I put it on my truck. Those are hard to find. They are worth $150 -$200

Well, im picking it up tomorrow. So ill see if it fits, if so, cool, if not than itll be on the For Sale section >LoL..Now I need to find the radiator support air horns, anyone? :D

I remember seeing a dual snorkel aftermarket setup (fiberglass i think) that Shorts on off-road.com forums had, probably 5 years ago. Main ppl around from that board i can think of are Jason (RIP buddy), and AJM blazer. Maybe he remembers......

Ha. I guess the dude was bored and delivered the air cleaner to me. I gave him an extra 5 bux for gas. It even comes with a K & N filter. This thing is all complete including vacuum lines (hmm, wonder if I can hook them up some how - where would I hook them up? ) It looks mint condition, no discoloration , no rust, no dents, sweet.

So tomorrow Ill see if it fits and take some pics. :D

Should have a temp switch on the housing with two nipples for vacuum lines. Hoses to the THERMAC valves appear to still be hooked up, manifold vacuum to the other nipple.

Hmm, could I tie it into one of the unused CARB ports? Or does it have to be manifold vacuum? NOt sure Ive got anything on the manifold itself. It is stock manifold though.
