hey all, me and a few friends are lookin for a place to go for a few days for spring break. Im not in my normal stomping grounds and were trying not to drive the 4 hours to GWNF where i normally like to go.

were lookin for a place about 1-2 hours from Norfolk Virginia to get a little mud on the tires. Nothin crazy wheelin wise (my friend has an FJ that isnt even paid off and dosnt wanna tear it up), the priority is camping, weve got a pop up, and individual tents, but we dont want to be around everyone else.

any ideas?

I dont know anywhere really 1-2 hours from Norfolk. I am not sure if Corolla Beach allows camping but you can drive down the beach and hang out. Not really wheelin since you have to stay off the dunes. GW Natl was pretty fun when I went. It had rained a couple days before we went and the water was kinda high on a couple of the crossings. My little 35s were completely under water. A cab full of water is always fun.

I lived there for a little over 4 years. What are the specs on your rig?

pretty much stock. its a 1986 M1009. 6.2L/TH400/NP208/6 lug 10 bolts front and rear with 3.08 gears/all riding on 33x12.5 goodyear MT/R's.

not the most extreme rig out there, but it handles most things i throw at it. Only time ive ever been denied was a rock passing i simply didnt have the clearance for.

im collecting parts for a few mods though... actually, darn near a completely new drivetrain. well see how that goes. First up are 3/4 ton or 1 ton axles (seller wasnt sure, i need to go look em over), a 4in lift, and H1 rims with 35-37in tires. then (hopefully very shortly after that) a swap in of a full manual 4L80E for the overdrive. last but not least, rebuilding the engine, with studs instead of bolts, and a turbo install.
