Where would you guys mount a 102 whip on a 76 k5? I was thinking of going ball mount and spring to the rear quarter panel on the drivers side but not sure I want to drill all those holes. What do yall think? Where would you mount it?

Supposedly the signal gets transfered diagonally from the antenna,in other words, mounting it on the right rear 1/4 will give best reception and transmitting power to the drivers side oncoming traffic..

One disadvantage I found to having a 9 foot steel whip mounted on the right rear 1/4 was the fact it hit every low hanging tree branch, wires, etc, and once I had the antenna get bent over on a low hanging branch and snap back and "whip" a by-stander waiting for a bus!..luckily he was not injured badly,it could have taken an eye out....

Most utilty company trucks with 2 way radios mount the antenna on the drivers side...their radios are most likely UHF or VHF though, and the signal probably isn't as directional as the lower CB frequencies are...

I've had 9 foot whips mounted on the bumper on either side ,front, rear, and on the rear 1/4's and one directly overhead on the roof--the roof mount seemed to work the best, but not really all that much--and it hit EVERY thing under 13 feet tall I drove under...

What kind of mount did you use when mounting to the bumper? The way a 76 bumper is you can't fit a ball mount on it cause there's not a large enough flat surface.

I've got a 102' on the the left side of the rear bumper on my 95 half ton Dodge, All I did was put the actual antenna on it, the mount was already there, and the coax was already ran when I bought the truck. It's one of the best setups I've even had, zero static, great range, and good clarity. And thats with the old front mic Cobra 29LTD I've had forever.

I have a centerload Wilson on the passenger side mirror on the Blazer, the clarity is just as good if not better than the 102', but the range is about half.
This is with either an old 70's era 23 channel Midland, or a side mic Cobra 29, The old Midland seems better than the newer Cobra.

I had one of those chain & bracket mounts to put it on a bumper--it was pretty "universal" and worked on both the rear step & tow bumper, and the stock front one...not sure if they even still sell those--you can buy a simple "pass thru" mount like this at Radio Shack for about 5 bucks though...

I had an antenna mounted at the left rear corner on the bumper once, It got ripped off a few times on the trails, also the signal SUCKED for anything long range.

After about the 3rd time of being ripped off, I just slapped on a nice magnet mount K-40 style in the center of the roof. Gets out great, flexes when trees are hit, never hat a problem with it, good strong magnet.

so does this mean your reviving the blazer? I haven't stayed real up to date on what you've got going on. But, With your recent turn of events. I hope your spending your time on YOU! And rear quarter is the most efficient place I've seen them mounted.
