My wifes 2006 Z71 Silverado has 190,000 miles on it and not sure if it would be safe to tow the 87 Blazer to BB17. It has the 5.3 Vortec. We've never had any trouble with it. I've kept the fluids changed like they should and it runs fine. But the high mileage bothers me.

So far, the only place that we can find to rent a truck for towing is at Enterprise in Lubbock, Texas. Way too far to drive for a rental. Even United Rentals is a few hours away.

Enterprise rents Quad Cab 1500 trucks, as well as Budget, but they don't allow towing.

Any suggestions?

If we can't find a rental, we will have no other choice but to use her Silverado. No way am I passing up BB17. Just PM me your phone numbers in case we break down. We'll be traveling from Goddard, Ks starting Wednesday morning. On a good note....we have AAA

You'll be fine. Just keep it outta overdrive and watch your temps. All you have to do is put fuel in it.

Good time to upgrade the trans cooler.

I did a quick search your truck should be rated around 7k at the low end and above 8k at the high end.

If you have never had problems why worry. 190k isn't that much anymore

Enterprise will do truck rentals if you have a truck rental near. I rented a 14' Chevy 3500 with a diesel. Got a really good deal but it was really nice. Cruising at the speed limit over Soldier Summit

As mentioned, a good additional trans cooler and stay out of overdrive. You'll probably be fine.

Expect to take it slow and easy through the mountain passes in CO.

190k isn't bad for those trucks. If it has been well taken care of all its life I think you will be fine, just make sure all the fluids are clean and full like others have said and take it slower if you have too. Make sure your trailer has good brakes too and your brake controller works properly.

Yeah brakes. Remember to shift down and stay off of them coming down the passes or you won't have any

My buddy is using his 5.3 to tow his k5 from CA too. On paper his truck has a tow rating of 11k but I know it will be slow in the mountains.

I'd say rock your own truck. I have towed my fair share of K5 blazers with my 1500 Silverado. It did it just fine. Just took my time and was patient.

Plus, you could always use my diesel if yours breaks...

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your vote of confidence. I feel a lot better about taking her truck. I had a very small feeling that it should be ok. The mileage bothered me but her truck has been taken care of. We've talked about what would happen if her truck ever blew the motor or transmission and we decided long ago that we would have them both replaced because we really like the year and style of this Silverado. And it's paid for.

So......no rental. We'll be driving the black beast. We also have phone numbers for a "just in case". Thank you for that also.

A larger trans cooler will be installed, along with the roll cage for the K5 that'll be here around noon tomorrow. Going to be a very busy 11 days. Let the countdown continue.

:hack: :weld:

The rental places that say NO TOWING! Don't have any idea if you are or not :waytogo:

One of my buddies has towed with a rental that said NO quite a few times
