Where\'s the VIN

I am new to the Blazer cult and I need to know where I can find the VIN. Apparently the doors have been replaced on my 77 so there is no tag. I have heard that the vin is on the frame but where?

Re: Where\'s the VIN

You should find the vin tag in the driverside windshield area of the dashboard.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

The tag on the dash didn't start until 78 apparently. The DMV officer told me that.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

Mines 78 and it's still in the door jamb. They may have changed it mid year.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

My 76 blazer was in the dash, so is my buddy's 73 truck. 72 was last year for the A pillar vin tag.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

Better re-check your memory. My 73 tub has the VIN in the door jamb. My 74 had it in the same place. My 81 has it under the drivers side of the windshield.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

thats the same place my 78 had it, i thought it was sideways though. my friends 77 truck has is in the same spot.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

Should be on top of the drivers side frame rail just back from the firewall and under the floor. I've never seen it personally, but that was what I was told.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

My dads 77 VIN's are located in the door jam on the B-pillar either above or below the door striker, on the dash on the drivers side up against the windshield and on the top of the frame rail on the passenger side about 8" forward of the rear axle /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Where\'s the VIN

If the glovebox sticker is intact, that will work for the DMV. I just went through this with my 74 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif as they got the VIN wrong and listed it as a /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif, the bozos.

Re: Where\'s the VIN

Frame VIN on a truck your vintage is PROBABLY on the upper frame rail in the vicinity of the steering gear box.

Later frame VIN's were under the drivers seat, but earlier weere easier to see/tamper with.

I can't believe they need a *partial* VIN from the frame...it really proves nothing, even if it didn't match the body VIN, you'd likely only need a bill of sale showing you bought the other frame and swapped it to make it legit.
