Whew!!!!

Anyone ever tried to put a motor, transmission and t-case in by them self? Wow! What a royal pain in the ars! I got the motor set in with no problems. I had the trans and t-case already bolted together and attached to the crossmember. All I had to work with was one floor jack and a bottle jack. It wasn't fun and it cost me a creeper! I had the whole assembly almost up into place when the bottle jack fell over and the cross member came down and crushed the creeper I was on! Couldn't have missed me by more than a half inch. The good news is that it is all bolted back into the truck and I still have all of my appendages.

Anyone else ever try this?

It's when you do a job like that and you get it all together that you find out that you forgot to put the flux capacator or the coniferator in and the thing don't go. LOL

i had my wife help me put my motor in and she might weight 100 lbs wet. but have'n another set of hands is very nice.

I got the mother of all floor jacks. Has 30 inches of lift. I built a set of jigs that I can remove the saddle and put these in it's place. Sort of a custom Tranny jack but made to work with a NP203 and TH350. With these putting in the gear is not so bad and relativly safe since the heavy stuff is full suported by the jack.
I pretty well do all my stuff by myself also so getting creative and making helpers is what is needed.
I don't even like using bottle jacks. They are not the safest thing. Ballancing a couple hundered pounds on a 1 inch diameter pole with a 4x4 inch base just goes against all rules of safety with me. Can't remember the last time I used the one bottle jack I have.
The closest call I have had was dropping a engine and tranny in my Supra. Had Mr's Reaper Manning the hoist since it didn't have a leveler (rented) I could not do it by myself. I had to get under the car and hang on the tail shaft of the tranny to get it at the right angle and guide it in. Stupid rented hoist had a hair trigger release. The Mr's slipped on it and down came engine and tranny while I was hanging onto the tailshaft. Thankfuly I was on a creeper and it just shot me up under the rear of the car instead of poping open my skull.

Trust me, I didn't like having to use the bottle jack, but I didn't have any choice. It was the only way I had of lifting the rear of the t-case to align the tranny and motor. If I had it all to do over again I would wait until I had a friend there to help. Lessons learned!

Done it many of times and everytime I do it I say I am never gonna do it again, but sure as heck I always end up on my back on a wed. night or the wee hours of thurs. am trying to get the car set for friday prelims

. Just can't seem to find good helpers to assist at 3:30 am
