i came into a little play money and i just got a job at autozone woohoo. and i want to get my blazer ready for this summer.

my question is what are the 3 main gauges (besides the tach, speedo and fuel). that you would put in your truck. But my other concern is my fuel guage fluxuates so much so i dont know. i will be purchasing autometers and mount them on the dash. thanks guys.

Gotta go with Oil Press, Water Temp & Trans temp if you have auto, otherwise Volt would be the next one. Might as well go for 4 gauges. You could add Oil temp, brake line press, fuel pressure, EGR temp gauge, vacuum gauge, etc etc etc :D

I actually have a vacuum gauge mounted in my engine compartment. Its to help me tune my carb.

I would do in this order, oil pressure, water temp, trans temp, if there is money left then i would add engine oil temp, volt meter. It is more important to know what the engine and trans are doing than if your charging system is working. If the charging system doesn't work at least you aren't blowing up and engine or transmission.

how many factory cars come with trans temp? whereas every car has a volt gauge... it's also a far more common problem area, than even oil pres, or trans temp... only one being more often "an issue" would be water temp...

my list...

oil pres
water temp
volt
trans
fuel pressure
oil temp
air/fuel
vaccum

I'd go with volt over trans temp too, as long as you have a good cooler.

But actually, lots more GM trucks are coming wiht them, a friend's 02 Denali even has one.

yup, I agree, you do see them WAY more in recent years.. especially with tow packages I'd guess...

and obviously I love having mine, heck, I run 11, or 12, so I'm into my info...

it's just the "thought" of not having a volt gauge... I ran hotrods for DECADES with no trans gauge, sure it woulda been nice.. but it seems to me, blowing up a trans from heat is way rarer than an alt sh*tting the bed...

thanks for the replys. i already have a volt gauge in the dash that works pretty good for the stock unit.

ok so far im set on:
oil pres.
trans temp
???

also what would be the advantage of a a/f guage or a vaccum gauge

ALSO i already have a autometer tach i havnt installed yet. i think its a sport comp or something. its the black face one

?? = water temp...... vital..

a/f guage are a MUCH bigger $$ investment than a vac... those are basically the only 2 guages I don't run yet.. well, and brake pres... eventually I'll be running em all...

heck, I run dual volts... :haha:

What does a vehicle coming stock with a trans temp gauge have to do with anything? We are subjecting our trucks to lots of off roading where crawl speed is low which means little air flow for cooling which equates to a GOOD REASON to monitor the trans temp (especially if it's a 700R4).

Don't get me wrong that a volt gauge isn't important because it is and can tell you a few things about you electrical system. My guess was that the OP still has a functioning volt gauge in his rig (which he has said he does) and that he was adding several other gauges as well and wanted input on what would be best. Me personally, i would rather lose an alternator without warning than an engine or transmission.

I had a whole rebuttal, I just erased it.. I'm not gonna bother arguing minutia with you...

Why do you seem to have a problem with me? Two people don't have to have the same opinions about things. I simply stated what i would choose and why, you opinion is obviously different from mine and there's nothing wrong with that.
