which bedliner to paint the truck?

the truck is due for paint job, and im thinkin i want to roll on bedliner on my entire truck. i personally have experience with herculiner (in my k5 interior) and it was kinda hard to clean and keep looking new. im not sure how it would look after a couple trail rides with mud splashed all over it. have you all used it on the complete exterior of your trucks? anybody tried rhinoliner? how does that compare to herculiner? is there another brand i should go with that you've had good results with?

im looking to get the truck grey, and i want to do it myself (keep cost down). ive noticed there is some rust spots underneath, so i dont want to spend the $$$ for linex.

what have/would you use?
 
I don't think you can do rhinolining yourself
 
I had my whole blazer covered in Durabak (just like herculiner but actually available in colors of all shades). I wouldn't do it again. I chose gray but people always asked me if it was stucco.:confused: God, I'm not THat Mexican:wink1: . Anyhow, it was a skin destroyer if you ever need to slide between your rig and a garage door or other car. It clings to dirt and you basically have to use a floor brush to get it clean.
If it gets damaged the floor brush helps remove more of the product which makes it even more of a pain in the :doah:

My opinion...
If you have it done professionally (rhino or line-x) it's going to cost an armload of money and be a big PITA if you have to replace body panels or anything else.

If you roll on or spray herculiner or durabak or a similar product the benefits are overridden by the huge inconvenience that the product causes.

Rattle can it or take it to Earl Schieb or Maaco for a cheap paint job that you can touch up with a spray can.

thanks dude i appreciate the heads up, i dont want ppl thinkin its stucco:haha: :doah:. i was also thinkin of rattle canning it, and after your testimony i think ill end up just spray painting it.
 
what i always think is the goofy sh!t they put on the ceiling that always seems to crumble off if you touch it? :dunno: i just got the confirmation that that is what it is :D

They do have the "smooth" durabak without all the particels in it ya know :wink1:
 
try rust bullet

I just finished coating my chevelle frame with rust bullet, I rolled one coat and sprayed another with ease. GIve me a few years and ill let you know aobut about duribility. My k-5 interior and about a foot of the oustide has huculiner, which is starting to peel and rust. With duplicolor or hurculiner, if you want a lasting job, everything must be sanded to bare metel, rust primed etc. Bottom line, quality costs $$$, how nice do you want it?

Mine was sprayed with speedliner by body shop. They stripped it to bare metal then metal etch primer and painted the entire truck then roughed the paint where the liner was going.

Seems to wear well for what little time it spends out of the garage. Cleans up well with normal car wash procedure, Then I use a little armor all on it. It also has the UV protectant mixed in with the speed liner.

Entire interior was done and bottom of body, grill surround, etc...

I use a DIY two part liner made by Dominion something or other I can find out later. It used to be called Hippo Liner. It's been off the shelf for a few months and finally popped up again as Gator Guard. I'm assuming a court case ruling :D.

It's a Canadian product so it might not be easy to get down there, but the stuff is the BOMB! $40 or so for a kit that easily does a bed and it's durable as all get out. Available as a white that you add your own tint to as well.

The big plus is that you can make it as aggressive as you desire by how you apply it. I roll it on. The first roll is simply textured. If you let it sit until tacky and roll again it is skin ripping textured.

I've used it inside and out, and even did the roof of my Burb.
