OK, so Im swapping cams in the ol' 383 for low end grunt. :D Im looking at one cam thats 204/214 duration @ .050 with .420/.442 lift and another cam thats 214/224 duration @ .050 with .442/.465 lift both with 112 degree lobe seperation. Its a 383 with Edelbrock heads, roller rockers, about 9.8:1 compression, dual plain intake, 650 carb, headers, etc. Its in a 73 K20 with TH350, 4.10's, and 35" tires.

the 204/214...thats basically the specs for the edelbrock performer cam
the 214/224....thats the same as edelbrock performer rpm cam..this is the 1 i would use with a good dual plane intake
i have a 204/214 edelbrock performer cam and it feels and acts almost just like a stock cam...i wish i would have went with the larger peformer rpm cam for a little more power and some more attitude in the idle lope...but you have to match parts correctly to get a good end product....but i think the larger cam is still tame enuff to run well with a stock tbi unit ok, if your running fuel injection..oh i just reread your post and your parts registered in my head...hehehe....definily the 214/224 cam...especially since you have the edelbrock heads

with the larger cam you will have the top end = to edelbrocks rpm topend kit that boasts 415 or 425 hp(i think thats right) expected.

Hmm my catalog says the RPM cam is 234/244 duration. :dunno:
But after a little more reading I see the 204/214 cam is for 8-9.5:1 compression and I'm running 9.8:1. Also the smaller cam is for 2200-2600 RPM cruise and when Im on the freeway Im usually doing more than that.

the rpm is 234/244...my bad....but the performer is the 204/214 and its 50 state legal cam....so it is basically a stock cam, so the 214/224 should fill the bill(almost inbetween the performer and the peformer rpm), just a little more than stock so a little more performance, but i see you live in ca, and the larger is not that much larger than the peformer so it may would still pass smog, if thats an issue.

Naa, smog is not an issue with it being a 73. I was running a 230/236 cam which sounded awesome but wasnt great drinving around town, hauling heavy loads and low RPM cruising. Plus I pulled a couple stumps and was wishing I had more torque and at a lower RPM.

call comp cams help hotline and see what cam they say to use, or use there web site.
