I want to replace the carb on my truck. I heard that Edelbrock is the way to go But Id like to hear what some of you have to say. I need something that is going to be reliable.

As far as carbs go......Stock quadrajet is the only way to go for dependability and offroad. Edelbrocks are great for mall crawling. I know there a lot of malls in AK where you can impress people. But Totally suck offroad. Who cares about that tho....

Im looking for something dependable.
I have had bad luck with the stock qjets. I also want to get rid of the emmisions on the truck.

Take a look at the performance Q-jets on Summit. Not a bad price, and pretty much ready to go out of the box. I like Edelbrock, but the reliability of the Q-jet really can't be beat.

I know Holley makes some direct replacements for OEM Q-jets. Once dialled in, Holley's are nice carbs. The Edlebrocks are the old Carter carbs. I used to run them way back in the day. but that was more is street cars then 4x4s.

convert to tbi.

x2.

if you're set on sticking with a carb, i've only heard good things about the truck avenger and i love my q-jet offroad. what kind of problems were you having with your q-jets?

Im runnin a street avenger 670. Works real good, HOLLEY is the way to go hands down

i would steer away from a holley double pumper unless you like to start your truck a milllion times a trip. mine floods out if i get too close to a hill.

Depends on which route you take. If you got aftermarket, expect to pay anywhere from $500-2500. If you plan on going factory TBI plan on anywhere from $200-700. Aftermarket is more suited for a "tuned up" engine and stock is suited for stock. Do a search on fuel injection. I think anything fuel injection over carb is going to be a great improvement!

I'll throw my .02 in on the carbs... obviously EFI is much nicer..... for a stock to mild mill, hands down, Quadrajet...

Holley lovers tend to be young... I used to think they where the ch*t too.. Then the real world krept in over the years... Quadrajet engineering is far superior...

I was kind of kidding about my above posted "Carburetor". I definately think EFI is the way to go, and that is a neat throttle body, and it makes for an easy EFI conversion (Bolts on right in place of carb), but for about $200-$250, you can get a complete factory chevy TPI set-up like I just bought...

This is a much better system than a throttle body style injection because you dont have to deal with wet flow intake issues, so you get more accurate fueling for each cylinder. There are endless options for aftermarket programmable ECU's out there, and the entire swap could be done for under $1K easy.

 x eleventy billion!

Holley is the only way to go

I would have disagreed years ago.. but my truck avenger 670 is awesome!!!!!

although I had to do the bigger discharge nozzles and accelerator pump.. probably due to cam/head swap... not sure but got that hessitation almost out.... :wink1:

I always liked my qjet.. stock too.... I swapped to a holley 600 and hated it...

also holley lovers being young? at 34 guess im in the middle.. HAH....
if I cant have my holley truck avenger.. gimme fuel injection....

although I dont know if I want to deal with the extra wires and sensors... my truck is simple and stupid... mud it up and wet it down... she always fires up
