1990 Suburban V1500 4x4 gas 350 with rebuilt 700R4 Transmission.

Should I chose 6.2 or 6.5 diesel?

Looking to convert from gas to diesel

Also how difficult it is to convert from gas to diesel with a 6.2 and 6.5?

The 6.2 will be an easier fit and simpler to wire up. The 6.5 side turbo mounting will interfere with the A/C box on the firewall. You'll either have to ditch it or work around it (some have modified the box or used a smaller one from another GM truck.) Models with the turbo mounted on the rear of the intake manifold (vans, H1s) won't clear the firewall. Later models were computer controlled, which adds to complexity.

It depends on your budget and how much hassle you want to deal with. You'll have to change your transmission governor and torque converter, motor mounts, etc, but the conversion isn't difficult. Dimensionally these engines are about the same size as a 350 since they were designed to fit in the same trucks. Banks makes a turbo kit for 6.2 engines that will take them to 6.5 power levels.

We went over all this in the last thread. IMHO, I would sell your current vehicle and buy the same thing but in Diesel. I would also try a CL trade add. Maybe someone out there would like to trade their diesel for your gas burb.

We've gone through several threads now, it hasn't gotten any easier or harder to do the swap.

FWIW, the 6.5 design is based on the 6.2. There are few differences. They basically bored out a 6.2, lowered the CR, and added a blower. All steps that you can do on your own at a hotrodding shop. The later engines have serpentine belts and electric lift pumps instead of V-belts and mechanical pumps. 6.5 engines from 94 onward have electronically-controlled injection pumps. 97 and onward engines have upgraded cooling systems.

Aside from making room for the turbine & assorted piping, the swaps are nearly identical. 6.5 engines were also shipped without turbochargers, if you want to have the larger displacement without running into clearance issues with your heater box.

Not sure what else to say. I'm pretty sure we've covered this ground before... :dunno:

Which is why HIS best bet is to sell what he has, and buy what he wants.......
