I am converting my '86 carbed motor to a TBI set up from a 88 K5. I pulled out the distributor I had and went to spin in a few time and it is pretty rusted inside and not spinning to smoothly so I am gonna pick up a new one. I was looking at summit and there are like 20 different ones. How do I know which one I need? I am pretty sure I need magnetic pick up. Do I need electric or mechanical advance? I will be runnning the computer and all factory motor wiring from the 88 K5.

Im wondering the same thing for mine but im replacing the worn out engine on my 90 blazer. I kind of want to go with a full ignition setup with new coil dizzy and module like the msd offroad design but im not sure how this would work with the ecm. To answer your question it is a electronic advance not mech or vac. That MSD one on top looks like it is the correct one.

For a TBI engine you will need MSD-8366 and if you want the coil as well it is MSD-8266 and the MSD 6A box if interested is a MSD-6200

EDIT: I just clicked you link and everyone of those distributors is correct for the application.
I just noticed that i've had my MSD stuff for almost exactly 5 years now without any lick of trouble.

Thanks I already have the coil. I was able to get a hold of a friend of mine that knew which one I needed. I ordered the 8366. I found it on ebay for $300 shipped.
