whos running a doubler in their k5 behind a NV4500 ?
Which one did you choose ?
How do you like the way it functions ?
What stick setup are you running with it ? Cable ? Linkage ?

Seems like I’ve baisically narrowed it down to Off road design. Or North west FabWorks . Both are similar in price .

I’ll be running the 203/205 setup my 203 is 32spline input , 205 is ten . NWF says you can run the ten spline with their setup but after a little research it’s best just to switch to a 32 spline big bearing on the 205 for strength.

NwF offers clock ability with theirs ord does also but sounds like you need to decide that ahead of time .

Shifter: cable or linkage ? Pros cons ?

Maybe I’m stressing myself out too much over this lol I just want a quality setup that gonna work where I don’t haft to go backwards and change it later thanks in advance for any and all reply’s .

Most prefer cable shifters because they can be mounted pretty much anywhere whereas traditional linkage is limited to a certain area on the floor. Check out JB Fab for the shifters....

I was gonna add them to the equation their products have better reviews as far as a shifters go

I don't have a NV4500, just a SM465 but I chose an ORD kit (clocked 2" up) and I love it.

I bought my kit a long time ago and back then the NWF was new and having some issues with the adapter pieces coming loose (not sure if it was product or installer related) and their cable shifters had a bad reputation for breaking. I think they have everything ironed out now. Jed's Machine offers one too but there's is a less expensive kit that isn't all inclusive so there are additional parts needed that you'd have to source. I don't know much about the Jed's kit but it seems like their spud shaft wasn't the same material quality as ORD or NWF.

I picked ORD because it was A) a tried and true product, B) all inclusive - gear oil was the only additional item needed and C) Stephen Watson's direct involvement in our sport / this site / GM trucks. It's one thing to offer products but another to actually live it and understand it.

My only regret was not going with a triple shifter set up initially because I was trying to save money on the shifter and I didn't want to have the ability to use front drive only since I had not bought alloy axles. Dumb decision. Soon, I'll be pulling the 205 to swap shift rails because I have bought a JB Fab triple cable shifter.

I realize it's a good bit more money but that Magnum box is pretty dang cool.

i have built a few doublers for my 2 project trucks . i run auto trans my self .

from playing with hese a bit over the years just in mock up i can say adjustable clocking is o.k. for setup after that who changes there clocked position . i have 1 @ stock clock and 1 @ 2" up clock . but mine are both in k30 frames so i have less hang down over other guys with shorter frame height's .

now looking back at it yes i used what i had like you are planning . but with TODAY'S options out there if i had to pick today cash in hand . . . . ORD magnum box and 205 tcase . way more gear ratio options and also even deeper low/low combo than 203/205 kit .

but in the end its each to there own as to what you want under the rig .

i can say i have ORD tripple stick on both trucks . the 1 truck i ditched there mount bracket and made my own cause i have a real weird combo going on with 2 extra levers on the driver side so i made the bracket to hold there 3 on right and my 2 on the left side . also i wanted to shove the levers as far forward as i could on that build to clear the custom seat / console unit i fabbed up for the truck .

in your case the 205 needs to be torn down and the case machined for the big bearing but thats easy for both tear down and machine work .and swap in a 32 spline front output . its a direct swap minus new yoke or flange . if keeping gm style c/v head a 208 front output works with a specific seal # i have listed in my build link below .

and when your 205 is torn down . . . do the twin stick mod now . its so much nicer to shift a 205 with 2 levers over 1 .

if you go ORD look here for a full step by step with TON'S of pics on just how to build the combo . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/4l80...05-ord-doubler-3-sticked-its-all-done.253000/

good luck and have fun . :waytogo:

Lol I they are but I started thinking if that thing breaks price and part availability would be more common on the doubler.

I've got it. Its badass. Loved it all.

Until I went 42s. Now I wish I had the planetary doubler or a lowmax 205.

With 4.56 gears and 39s it was perfect with the nv4500. Now I need more. I dont want to change axle gears in order to keep the pinion teeth large as possible.

If you're staying under 39s a 203 205 is not bad.

Lever shifters or die.

yes forgot the lowmax 205 . . . .but find one for a fair used price . and new who knows when the next batch will be done .

ugh... "Lomax"

I WANT a Lomax for my Doubler. Like @obijuank5 I think 3:1 would be perfect, especially here in the southeast where the reduction would help but still need more wheel speed than 4:1+ gives.

Ok guys the wedding and honey moon are over lol had a blast Maui was awesome if you haven’t been go ! Now it’s time to get back on my rig !

I decided to go with the 203/205 setup it’s gonna all bolt to my nv4500 I understand you haft to drill the 203 case for the round six hole pattern I’m having a hard time finding where to put the holes clocking wise any pics ,links or write up you know of would be extremely useful thanks .

The 203 needs to be straight up and down. Easiest way to lay it out is to use the gasket as your layout. Mark hole and do your thing
Good to mock the 203 up and mark/check things just for that measure twice effect

I’m going to put it in my milk indicate the hole and drill and tap . Can you show me what you mean by straight up thanks .

The concern would really be the shift linkage. Less so for cables than levers

But if you have the 4500 as it would be installed in the truck, the shift lever would be perpendicular to the ground

Best note is that the foot on the adapter plate would be level

If I went off that line where my screw driver is pointing looks like it would be close ?
