Which Engine?

I'm a big block guy, I'd say a mild 454. No need to go crazy, I've had many mild 454s and always had enough torque to do what I wanted to do. Not listed, but why not the 8100 Vortec? IMO kinda best of both worlds, big block torque and LS heads, fuel and computer technology. Most the LS engines make their power higher in the RPM range than a traditional small/big block, and maybe for mud be fine, or with real low gears. Im just not sold on the LS bandwagon.
Ya the LS has its areas of expertise. Wait! I got it. Put a supercharger on the big block. Boom! Best of both worlds.

If someone has already upgraded the drivetrain of your '77 to TBI and overdrive, just leave it be.

I say stick with a small block or possibly a Cummins 4bt. If not, go big or go home. General Electric F110 anyone.

if you're looking for a crate option the ZZ502 is a lot fun in a Blazer. Buddy has one with a hughes th400 on tons, it hauls ass for a big heavy rig.
