I really want fuel injection for my project burb. This weekend I am starting the install of my 4l80 and Compu-shift. I'd really like to do fuel injection prior to so I have a TPS instead of using the Compu-shift TPS set up.

I like the looks of Edelbrock MPFI. I have seen the Affordable FI system and the Howell systems. And then of course there is the Holley 4di.

Anyone have experience with these systems? I know the financial outlay. I am more curious about the performance of the product.

I've installed both the Edelbrock and the Holley systems and like them both. The Edelbrock system is ideal for milder motors (cams under 230 duration @ .050) and is super easy to fine tune with the hand held scanner that comes with the kit. When you get the kit you have to call Edelbrock with your engine specs and they send you a chip.
The Holley 4DI system works quite well, but isn't quite as easy to get going as the Edelbrock. You have to download a tune from Holley's site and fine tune it to get everything right. Getting a proper signal to the computer to have spark control can be a little tricky as well. If you go the Holley route let me know and I can get you pointed in the right direction. Just make sure you comfortable with running a laptop and setting fuel and spark maps.
I believe the affordable and the howell systems use GM computers that require the chip be reburned for tuning. I haven't installed either of these so I don't know that for positive but that's what I can gather from their websites. If this is the case then tuning can be a bit of a pain because you'll have to rely on them to burn chips.

Very good info. Thanks

I have been leaning towards the Edelbrock but at $1500 the Holley Commander would save $800.

there is a system made by mass flo efi that doesnt require any tuning no matter what. it has sensors that reads how much air is being put out and adjust the fuel accordingly. it automatically adjust for anything you do to the engine and the only thing you would ever need to change are the injectors if bumping up to more HP. www.massflow-efi.com is the website. the setup is complete with everything. u can get a complete fuel setup for your application as well from them. They guarantee that you will never have to tune it. This is the route i will be going. hope you guys like

I think a lot of it depends on what kind of engine you're planning to run and how much you want to spend.

If you're engine is going to be relatively stock or mildly modified, I'd stick with a GM factory system. TBI is a pretty reliable and simple system, and PROM tuning isn't the end of the world if you bump things up a little. TPI would work well on a SBC, and can be extensively modified. Any of the factory systems can be found relatively cheap if you look hard enough. I would use all new GM sensors.

If you're going to be building a more radical motor with a large camshaft, then I would look aftermarket. If you're willing to do some tuning, there are lots of affordable and not so affordable systems out there.

Here's a good link to MassFloEfi - http://www.massfloefi.com/ This looks nice but real pricey - $2995 for a mpfi bbc kit whereas the Howell kit is around $1700 iirc.

I like the Howell stuff because of the use of OE GM parts (ie; availability).

if you read the info on massfloefi.....its says that all parts can be had at an autoparts store. so, im pretty sure parts availability is not a problem. yeah...sure its a lil pricey. its also the only fuel injection that you dont have to tune at all, ever. If you dont want to spend 3k then i guess its not for you. luckily im over in the big sand box making me and the lil lady some money so im gonna fork it up.
