i have 37" tires, th700 with overdirve 350tbi . i dont know what rearend gears it has in it now but it feels ok. i was just wondering what a nice dd truck should have in it with my setup. i want to be able to take off nice but still have a nice rpm range for the highway going around 60. thanks

With 37's i would go 5.13's but if you still have the sotck 10 bolt axles i wouldn't recommend going any deeper than 4.56 max.

I'm running 4.88's with 37's and a 700R4 and it keeps me in a good all around RPM range, and it keep my spedo almost dead on so that was a bonus.

I would go with 4.56 for gas, 4.88 for all around, and 5.13 for performance.
Just for a rpm refference. I have 4.10s with 36" tires and 350/700r and I turn about 2300 rpms running 70 in od. I run 3k in drive going between 65-70

how do i check to see whats in there now?

on your ring gear there will be numbers stamped into it on the side, it will say something like 41 and right next to it a 10..if u divide 41 and 10 you have 4.10s and thats basically how you do it, just look for two numbers on your ring gear. and divide the bigger from the smaller, OR it might be in your glovebox also. it will says for example Gear ratio:4.10 or Gear ratio:3.73.

but in my opinion, just so you dont "waste" money on a 10 bolt,(blow it up soon after gearing it)and if you are looking into making your k5 a durable offroad truck, i would buy a 14bff, you can find them for cheap, its good to have a solid rear end, one less thing you have to worry about in the future. but if your happy with 10bolts then, hell, go for it! plenty of people re gear 10 bolts and are happy also.

im new to this offroading 4x4 thing. i know a little bit but not everything. im going to mostly be driving this on the paved road(my dd) but i want to be able to take it off road anywhere and not get stuck. i just havnt found out what i should do first to the thing, its realy slow

wouldn't it have rpo codes instead of flat out stateing the options on the truck?

ya i think so, but my friends truck actually had the ratio printed on the stick IIRC, or maybe im just crazy:rolleyes:
