I have a 90 model TBI and I want to swap in the cheapest crate engine from GM Goodwrench. Trouble is there are 2 or 3 economy blocks that they sell. I know that they have one designaed for my year model but I am wondering if I can get one that is built for an older application and retrofit it will all of my TBI crap to save a few hundred dollars.

Anyone got any advise as to how to make it the easiest on my very thin pocketbook? :o

Asking for trouble outside of a purpose built replacement for your TBI.

It may work ok, but it won't be "right" unless it is designed to be a direct replacement.

What parts would be different? Wouldnt it be like buying a updated block with the hydrualic roller but in reverse? I have no clue honestly.

NO! you cant get one of the GM goodwrench engines made for older carb engines. I know they are cheaper but.
The cam does not work well with TBI and will cause you problems. Also the TBI intake manifold will not bolt up directly to a older Carb heads.
The easist on your very thin pocket book is to get the correct engine for your application. You would spend more on the correct cam and adapting the intake manifold. Than the $200 more the TBI crate engine costs.

Awesome, thats what I needed to know. Thanks fellas. Time to start saving my pennies!

also, unless you get one for your truck, usually by vin number, they usually don't come with a warranty.
