Is it all of them or all except the upper 4 bolts? I have received some iffy guidance on this. '86 SBC 305

The service manual calls for sealant on all... #1052080 or equivelent.
Personally I've always just oiled to ensure proper torque, it's what I was taught by a couple highly qualified engine builders back in the day... I've never had a failure so I'll keep doing it that way...
