I use Sky's Tall crossover arm on my truck on my 10 bolt front. It works very well and is top notch stuff. I am using Grade 8 bolts torqued down heavy instead of studs. It works well. I am very happy with it.

I used to have SKy's standard arm with a spacer and I found out the hard way that spacers are the WRONG way to do things. I broke studs with the spacers. I also stretched Grade 9 (not 8) bolts with the spacers. Since I switched over to the tall arm that is 1 piece with spacer built in and setup for stock length studs or bolts I have had 0 problems.

When I broke the studs from Sky I called them and they sent me out a 5/8" upgrade and replacement kit ASAP for free. There customer service was great and so it there product. I will definitly buy from them again.

Without digging out my material specifications textbooks from college, I believe studs have 50% more clamping ability than bolts because there are threads on both ends, and therefore double the "bite" and pullback force.

I used the WFO. Great guys with a super beefy product. I got the crossover/high steer that moves the rod to the back. I did alot of shopping, and narrowed it down quickly when I decided to do tie rod ends rather than heim. BTF makes a killer one, but would need to be machined to accept a tie rod. I was just scared of the longevity of the heim.

do most of them use studs? whats the reasoning for that? my current arm jus uses grade 8 bolts into the knuckles

:eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1: your using bolts!!!! thats a huge no no! the steering arm uses studs with tapered nuts to keep the arm from moving on the knuckle. this needs to be addressed asap. i wouldnt run a setup with bolts:yikes: as for which arm to use. im pretty sure you need to run crossover and reverse highsteer to clear 56's, no?

the good thing about studs (in a regular application, not in this use) has nothing to do with clamping force. It has to do with:
1. Amount of theard used- you can thread a stud all the way into a hole where as a bolt may only get 75% of the way.
2. Ease of use- much easier to line parts up when using studs
3. No fear of stripping holes- constantly threading and unthreading bolts wears out holes/ threads. using studs the worse thing that happens is you need to get new nuts or at the worst new studs.

i never knew that??:doah: i have been using grade 8 bolts on my crossover arm, and havent had any problems. well i guess when i get the new arms, ill definitely get studs.

I have been using bolts for about 1.5 years with absolutely no problems. I am using the conical washers just like you would with the studs. The bolts have worked much better for me then the studs ever did. A good friend of mine has been using bolts for many years without problems.

Sky said nothing about me using bolts in my application about is being bad, and neither did the mechanical engineering student how helped me build my crossover steering system.

That a 10 bolt arm, not a 60. a 60 uses tappered nuts, not conical washers so it doesnt make a differance.

I bought the sky passenger side arm this mornng. They have 2 holes in them so i can ez'ly go to high steer down the road. So it looks like my rig will just be converted to cross over steer for now.

I'm using the ORD arms with the highsteer setup.I like everything about it.Beefy and simple.Already drilled for Dedenbears, came with the ARP studs, grease fittings, the whole works. Here's a pic. And,BTW,I'm sure some of the others are just as good.

Is anyone using steer arms from poison spider customs? I was thinking of going going with their reverse arms

Here's the NWF arm with the reverse highsteer

I don't have any pics of the other arm though.

ORD is a cool product because it is setup for the 5-hole Dedenbear knuckles if you ever want/need those, AND you can start with a conventional crossover arm (single arm) and then add their second arm on the driver's side later to convert to high-steer as money allows...... nice touch! :usaflag:

I just picked up the Sky arms. they look great. cant wait to get them on the truck in the next few weeks.

Anyone have any advice on where to get the tie rods for the xover or what tube to use to make one? I am trying to keep a friendly budget on this one.

I just ordered the ORD cross over steering kit. And then in Feb. I'll put in the rest of the hi-steering stuff. A nice complete kit indeed  !!
