The external hubs look cooler 
but they have smaller inner wheel bearings.
The outer bearings are the same on both types but with the smaller inner bearings you should keep a closer eye on them when running larger tires or when they see "severe service"

i like the bigger ones.not only for looks,but removal/install is easier than with the internal hubs.
