ok, as some of you know, i went wheelin for the first time back in June, and cause some destruction in the blazer, and on of the spider gears is missing a tooth....so the question is, i have a spare front end i got from DirtyJim that is on its way to NH as we speak, but upon closer inspection, we noticed that one of the shock mounts was welded, and not sure why, so what we want to know, is which will be easiest, pull the old axle out, put new one in, and change the BJs and Ujoints on shafts, or keep old one in, then swap spider gears? and then change the BJs and shaft joints on the old on at the same time?

Assuming the gears are the same in the spare axle and are not chipped, I would rebuild the spare (u-joints, ball joints, hubs) while its on the the ground and then swap it in.
