So I have both of these rigs. both bought pretty cheap. I'm at a toss up on what one to keep. I bought the Tahoe for $1300 just cause I liked it. The Ramcharger I bought yesterday for $525, Thought it would make a good parts truck for my first gen Cummins. Turns out its in pretty decent shape. I need cash from one or the other to finish my K5 and put what ever is left into the one I keep as a second back up wheeler. Nothing nearly as extreme as my blazer.
I need to expand these pros and cons to figure out which way to go...

1995 Tahoe 2dr TBI 350 4L60E NP241:
pros:
-TBI 350 I have all the parts in the world if it ever breaks down.
-Np241 with 2.72:1 low
-I have everything to option it out with BBC nv4500 etc

Cons:
-IFS!
-costly for Solid axle swap.

1991 Ramcharger 318 518 np208:
Pros:
-Solid axle
-air still blows cold
-simple to upgrade axles

Cons:
-318 I have no parts or common knowledge of there issues.
-np208

Keep the Hoe. Always loved those 2 door tahoes. Would love to get one and do a SAS on it and keep it a street/trail/hunting truck. :waytogo:

In your case, seeing you have a GM already, and can use all the Tahoe's parts or use it,it would make more sense to keep that one..

But on the other hand,a '91 Ramcharger is pretty rare (around here anyway),I would think it has a higher resale potential and would make a cool "toy"...maybe a "Walker Texas Ranger" type truck...no laws against putting a GM drivetrain in it either...:D...I was not aware they still made those that "late"...looks pretty rust free too!..I wouldn't mind owning it..

Tahoes are a dime a dozen, keep the Ramcharger!

Keep the Tahoe.

I miss my old 2 door Tahoe, probably buy another at some point.

Keep the 'Charger.

I just sold my '95 Tahoe 2 weeks ago. Only got $2K for it since that's what it books for. I'll never own another one of these unless its got a Vortec in it. These TBI's eat gas! Dang 'Hoe never got better than 12 mpg on the highways. :tongue1:

That's a perfect reason to sell the ram charger. He wot get crap for the Tahoe plus it lines up with all of his gm parts and we like gm builds more than mopar builds.

Some shmucky out there would buy thwt ram charger for a decent hunk.

I think the hoe is a keeper. Would make for a nice, long comfortable drive if needed.
The charger is cool, but you would have re stock up on parts again. And we all know what that looks like

I did think It'd be pretty cool having the 1st gen tow the ramcharger around... Not to mention they both have the 91-93 nose. And it could always get a cummins swap.. There's a few around..

But there's still the ease of repair and plenty of parts around for the 'hoe....

Now that I saw the pics, I defiantly say charger. While it is true we are on a chevy forum, I am not one to throw stones at other manufacturers all that often. As im more of a fan of the old and unique vehicles no matter what the manufacturer. And I for one see VERY few ram chargers around here. And when I do they should be on Pirate4x4s ghetto hack job thread.

But maybe they are all over in other areas. I have always thought they were cool.

I have not seen a Ramcharger of any vintage locally in years around here--maybe it's just because I'm not looking for any,but I usually take note of any 4x4 vehicle thats older when I'm out and about, nice or crappy!..

I've seen one ratty one on CL advertised as a "yard truck" for plowing only--beat up,rotted, and no title, they still wanted 750 bucks for it..:screwy:..

Keep the ramcharger. Why cause cool.

In half ton stock form they are awesome the rear axle is beefy. Good drivetrains too

Well, since neither one is a Ford.........

Dodge quality has gone downhill over the decades, and I'm not sure about the 90s version, but a Mopar 318 is one of those engines.
Not sure what the GM version would be, but a Ford, maybe a 360 big block.
Basically legendary.

Its one of those engines that when car guys are standing around, and you say you have a 318, its all that needs to be said.
Not flashy, probably not the greatest gas mileage, but totally solid. Of course, car companies can screw up anything in their quest for sales, but I know of a couple of 318s that wore out two different trucks each.

And a friend of mine had a pair in his cabin cruiser that every couple of years he would pull out, clean them up, flush them out, fix up the engine compartment, and just drop them back in.

I'll bet Ryoken has seen some in some old boats that just keep going.

Having said all that, it will probably throw a rod the next time you crank it.......

The only more durable & reliable Mopar engine than a 318,would be a slant six IMO..

There was a 318 in a 1969 Dodge Corenet 440 station wagon I used to deliver parts in at one of the parts stores--that poor car had the snot whaled out of it daily for the 3 years I worked there,by the other employees and myself (though I was easier on it than they were ,for fear it would die while I was driving it ,thanks to their beatings!)...

The engine was supposedly "rebuilt" by one of the customers who ran a service station before I worked there--but when I asked the guy if it really was rebuilt,he admitted they "just tossed in a junkyard motor" and told the parts store company they "rebuilt" it,when the original engine started smoking badly...
(They traded parts off instead of paying him for the engine & labor)..the car came from a body shop that owed the parts store a large sum of money, the owners accepted it in exchange for the bill they owed..it had sat 3 years behind their shop and evidently the block froze from lack of anti-freeze and cracked ,but it didn't show up until a few months later.

The only problem we ever had with that "junkyard" engine was the rocker arms on one side had the push rods "drill" right thru them--it was discovered that somewhere along its life, someone had installed the rockers in the wrong positions--they had "left" and "right" ones and someone evidently goofed and put them in the wrong spots!...once we corrected that,it never missed a beat..

I'd keep the Ramcharger because ones like that in decent shape are becoming difficult to find. Really the only negative is that parts are rarer/tend to be more expensive.

I'd take the hoe if I had any spare $$$

I like that era truck, wish I still had my 89...
