I'm not too familiar with what the difference in heat ranges does. I need to know what plugs to use (I'm buy some new ones, along with new plug wires tomorrow, to see if it cures my wicked engine grimmlins) What gap should I use (I think .045)? It is a 350 motor, I think was origionally from a 73 camaro. HEI ignition. Mild cam. Edelbrock 600 cfm carb.
He's a wicked embarrasing noob question, how do yall gap your plugs? Perhaps I'm doing something wrong (although I've never had problems in the past, untill I met this motor). I'm really hoping a new set of plugs and plug wires will cure my horrible drivablilty, and fouling out plugs. I'm thinking my engine troubles could very well span from plug wires that make a light show at night AND shock you :eek1: . I figure I may as well pick up a new set of plug on my voyage into the big city tomorrow :haha:
thanks,
James

I use autolite 26's theyre my fave and yeah id go with .035 too. As far as how to gap? I use one of those little 50 cent "gaping disks" that most parts houses keep close to the counter. theyre like the size of a half doller or so and you just slide the disk inbetween the electrode and the arm over the electrode and see what its set at. close it up a bit if its too big, and visa versa.

I'd still go with .035. I ran .035 in mine for years, never had a problem. HEI, Accel super, accel wires. I did blow apart a spark plug once though. The ceramic let go of the metal. I wonder if that was a gap issue.

Why are you guys calling for .045 with the HEI?

Id say r45ts with an .045.

Course on my 496 I am runnin r45ts with a .075 gap. Course that MSD setup lights it off good & strong. Ive opened it up on up to .09 with no misfires, but it seemed to eat the plugs too quick.

EDIT: Whoa just noticed this thread is almost 2yrs old.
