which spooli found 3 spools, one is from east coast gear supply ($150) and one is dur

If you like replacing tires then go ahead and get a spool. Which spool I couldn't say but it's doubtful there is any difference between the 3 other than pricing. I sure hope this isn't for a front D60, good luck trying to turn if it is.

it is for a front D60,but to make it a little better i am also running hydro assist. but i will be wheeling with one hub locked unless i need both on an obstacle. a couple of my friends have spools, and its not bad at all on the trail even with both hubs locked.

I know, I know, IFS=EVIL, but this just cries out for a manually operated axle disconnect.

Spool in the front, one axle direct connected, with a pull knob on the dash to lock and unlock the other axle as needed.

im not sure what u mentioned IFS for,but this is for a 89 blazer with a D60,a solid axle

You know, I'm sure that people here wonder why I post such long posts, and this is a good example.
I tried to be brief, and misunderstanding ensued.
Sorry about that.

I knew that it was a solid front axle, I was just suddenly struck by the fact that in this case a front axle disconnect like are used on IFSs would work great.

The main problem with a front spool, is the very difficult steering it causes.
To get better steering, you run with one hub unlocked.
Great idea.
You get to have a spool when you need it, and the truck will turn when you don't.

The downside is that when you need a spool, you have to get out or get someone to turn the other hub.

With a manual axle disconnect, like the Warn unit that replaces the heated shifter on newer trucks, you could shift the axle in and out from the cab.

But, that is only available on IFS units as far as I know.
Not worth the downgrade of course.

If someone were to build a disconnect kit for a D60 that was as strong as a D60, I bet you would see a lot more people running front spools.

IME, unlocking one hub still doesn't work awesome. And you're putting much more stress on that one engaged side, which if you're running lockouts can easily break stuff.

There are many solid front axles that use disconnects like you're talking about. Mostly Jeep and Dodge stuff, there are lots of Dodge D60's out there with CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) but they're almost all 32 spline and the CAD is not know for being super reliable.

o ok,sorry about that, but i actually just looked up what metal each were made out of. and i found out both the yukon and the durasolid r made from 4140,so i just ordered the durasolid spool, thanks for the input guys! o ya,dont worry,if i need to put any stress on my axle, ill be sure to lock the other hub so im not beating on only one.

There's such a thing. It's called the ARB Air Locker.
No need to reinvent the wheel.
