which steering box brace should i get?

The first link isn't good.

I put both types (weld & bolt on) on mine for piece of mind. They really stiffened up that area.

If you were to do only one, and your frame isn't already cracked, the bolt on brace will do the most good IMHO.

With the weld on kit, essentially all you're doing is making the frame thicker. The frame will flex less, but will still flex and eventually fail on it's own.

The bolt on brace actually triangulates that area of the frame, which keeps it from flexing.

I have both the weld in brace, and the bolt in brace. The only reason the weld in brace is in there is because my frame had cracked.

Whatever you do, brace that puppy.

My little brother used to own a K5, and he didn't do anything to the frame, despite the fact I told him to.

He ended up driving it around with the steering box ratchet strapped to the frame. :doah:

Kinda glad he sold that K5.

bolt in for sure for the win win.

i did a bolt in on my first truck with 38" tsl swampers. did a road test before and after . :eek1: WOW what a diffrence it made. :D

now every one of my trucks has the bolt in brace. :thumb:

Neither. Get 2 peices of 3/8 plate, drill holes in the box side and bolt it to inside of frame, then weld other plate to inside of other rail across, then attach them with a piece of 1in tubing or box tubing. You need to remove the factory crap riveted crossmember.

Maybe it's just me but my frame still moves with a brace like ord's. This is on 42s turning on flat ground. I will be switching to the plate idea as soon as I get some free time

hmm, never seen the 'cut out the stock cross member' idea done but it's a good idea. and while ive got the engine out would be a great time to do it.
