Which T-case is this skid plate for?

do you have a single hump or a double hump 208 crossmember?

from looking at it it needs to be on a single. the 4 bolts go on the bottom lip of the crossmember and the square hole allows access to the tranny mount bolt that would be above it. a double hump 208 skid would be curved on the front area to follow the arch of the tranny crossmember.

Yeah, it's a double hump. Wasn't even aware there were singles. What was the reason for there being two kinds anyway? But, what you're saying makes sense. I guess I'll have to keep looking for a plate to fit mine and let this one go to someone who'll have use for it!

That crossmember in the pics will fit the flat crossmembers, not any double hump members at all.

Measure the length of the plate. GM used two different lengths. The shorter one was under the '81-'84 trucks equipped with 208 cases.
The longer plate was under any '80 and older K truck and any K30 up to '84 with the 205 case.

Double hump plates look different than whats shown above. These are '85 and newer types.

Ah, so they switched to double hump across the board in 85? So, for my '88 with a 208 and double hump member, will I be alright with any post-84 plate, or would it still have to be specifically shaped for the 208? Judging from the replies the one I have fits at least both 205 and 208. Is there a picture somewhere of the shape I'm supposed to have instead?

'85 and '86 share the same plates. Then '87 up to '91 share a different plate than the previous years. I can't explain it over this post but can take pictures as I have all the years of plates in the shed. I will get a pic of a plate under my '87 V10 and can get one under my '85 K30 to show the difference between the two plates offered for the double hump members.

Let me get pics later.

BTW, if you can supply a pic of your crossmember, it will greatly help in aiding you with the correct plate. Many times people do swaps with anything and everything they can find and the end result is not having the knowledge to know which parts to fit back in, so they find other parts to make it fit.
I've seen too many trucks get tranny's and cases swapped out and the older style flat members fit back in. And vice versa.

So if you can snap a shot of your member, we can go from there.

Thanks, will do! I'm fairly certain nothing's been swapped out on this '88, but I'll try having a pic up tonight or tomorrow.

Well, it did take a coupla days more, sorry 'bout that... But now finally here's a picture of my member.

And by the way, any pun on the subject that anybody might feel like posting, won't be necessary...

That's what I refer to as the single hump crossmember.

I believe it and the double hump take the same skidplate, as they both dip down in the same location for the front CV joint/shaft.

IIRC, the bolts on those skid plates are on the edges, and sort of wrap around the contour of the crossmember.

Dammit! Forgot about the pics! Look for them later today as I'm on lunch right now.

will this one work? I have this somewhere in my garage if I didn't throw it in with the last scrap trip. I don't know what I got it off of except that it was a GM. maybe thatk30guy will know. :dunno:

Yes, that plate will work for AuH20's crossmember. Its the '87-'91 plate.

This is a great thread. Is the skid plate the same for a 203 as a 205? I ask because I have a project where I'm swapinga NP203 for a NP205. A 72 K5 TH-350 NP205 and placing it into a 78 K5 TH350 with a bad NP203. I only have the skid plate for the 78 w/ NP203. Will this work with the installed NP205?

Yes, 203 and 205 share the same plates. But be aware there are 3 different plates under these different years of cases.

I got sidetracked, again, tonight when a buddy and I went to the pool and then to Pizza Hut for supper. Will try to get pics of the plates up tomorrow. I think I will try to say "I promise" this time. :doah:
