Howdy all, well I did a lot of searching and just need a some feedback in regards to which transmission and t case would be best suited for the rig. Currently it's a 74 with a 350, th350, np 203 w/ part time, I will be swapping in a 14b ff and d44 hd w/4.11's, 35's and tbi. Truck will be used for mild off road use and driving around town but is not my daily driver. I have not decided if I will ever tow anything, more than likely not, but if so it would be a small trailer on occasion, under 2000lbs max. I don't want to spend a fortune on this so I'm not looking for a 1000 transmission, just good and reliable set-up. I have gone back and forth between keeping the th350 or getting a 700r4. I don't want to swap in a manual, nothing wrong with them I just prefer to have an auto in this rig. Currently, the route I'm thinking is just to rebuild to th350 with a shift kit and a few other goodies. Keep the 203, and maybe get the ORD twin stick for it. Currently everything is working the trans needs to be spruced up the 203 if fine and I already made it a part time. I had thought about getting a np205 and keeping the th350, but don't really think it's going to be beneficial to swap one in for my use. On the flip side I would really like overdrive and lower 4LO from a 700r4/241, but looking at the cost of doing so I'm looking at over a grand compared to just rebuilding what I have for a third of that. Any input is appreciated.

If its Not A daily driver I wouldn't swap anything. Rebuild the 350 and run it. 700 isn't going to be stronger than the 350. After you got the 700 you would
Want to Rebuild it stronger anyway to handle more power. Then you get into more money and a ton more if you have a shop do it. Part time 203 is fairly strong as well and with 410 gears in the axle you should be good on 35s. Just what I would do but I'm cheap and its easier to run what's there if it works. Trans and transfer case swap might mean new driveshafts as well. More
Money best spent elsewhere as well.

Agreed...you already have the partime kit, that is the biggest downfall of the 203, make sure the chain and gears are good, a few new seals and gaskets, good to go!
