So being that the he351cw I have is shot and needs a wheel and rebuild. And finding the china turbos are the same price, kinda makes me wonder if getting an hx40wII is a better idea? Anyone else got suggestions on buffers? I'd like to keep the drive pressure down because it'll be revved out on the highway and I don't want a ton of boost commuting.. a little lag is ok. Loaded that will not be a big deal and I can always adjust the wastegate.

I've heard a lot of good things about the hx40II. Seems to work pretty good as an allround turbo. If you're wanting to keep boost low while cruising should look into nonwastegated turbos. Keeping a lower drive pressure will keep the engine happier too.

You talking about the h1c or similar?

Hc1 is nice option. A team turbo is another. You could run a very large wastegated turbo and it since it'll take a lot spool it will give the lower drive pressures you're after. Now having enough fuel to decently spool something that large could be an issue.

What's the end use of the truck?

Daily driver first and tow rig second max weight 7klbs and keepin the sm465 might do a ranger OD later.

I think a hx40 will work perfectly for you. I have similar plans for mine other then currently being an automatic and I have an hx40 for it. Course I have to get it installed oneday.

Now I just gotta find the proper eBay turbo that everyone is using. I'd likely use an external wastegate anyway if the boost is not controllable.

Don't forget to check out any medium/heavy duty truck junkyards. I got mine out of a freightliner tractor with the 8.3 cummins. Customer at my old job was scrapping the truck and I scored mine for free!

After doing some more research and being scared away from the eBay crap. I found a company that makes an updated exhaust turbine and housing for the turbo I have, basically converting it to an hx40 for around 300$ but does not have the weird flange the hx40 does.
