keep going back and forth on winch setup ideas. I currently have a 8000 ramsey but will need more. For the money a 8274 is by far superior but would kill the hidden winch concept but I can build it in so it doesn't hurt current approach angle so not a big deal on that part. Here are a few concept ideas. I already have one lightforce light so might as well get another and incorporate it. First pic is current setup with my 8000 ramsey. I haven't built fairlead plate yet since not sure what I want to do. Second pic is concept of finished hidden winch. Third is an 8274 winch concept.

I still like the hidden winch idea. if you can fit a bigger winch in there i would definatly keep in there.
if you need you can use my tmaxx for mock up and measurements if you want.

I like the hidden winch look, what will you do with the old Ramsey8000? I'd be interested in it if it's for sale. But definitely the hidden winch look so it stays out of the weather and doesn't hurt approach angle.

The 8274 wou
ld go into grill and not stick out any farther than bumper currently so approach angle isn't an issue for either setup

8274's are BA, and from everything ive read, they are very under rated (capability pound-wise), definitely one of the best winches. id go that route if i had the money

My only issue with hidden winch mounts is if you go nose first into a mudhole, you have to dig down to get the cable and put the winch in nuetral.

I had one on my tow rig once and drove into a flooded ditch. I could NOT get to the winch to pull the cable and had to wait for two other rigs to pull me out. That sucked!

You can also do a quick connect setup. I used one on my trail rig for a while. I liked the fact you could move the winch to the back if needed. That save my body a few times by using the winch to pull the body away from trees on a side slope.

anybody have a pulley out on the end of a stinger...that could pick up a large heavy object...i.e.motor

edit sorry 4 h/j...your pics made me think of it

also getting to the clutch lever is more of a pain in the hidden setup. I might put the ramsey in the rear of the blazer

I never use the free spool on my 8274 anyway, power out is faster and easier

I have seen that on a guys hunting truck. He used it to string up the deer and skin 'em, was hard on his 1/2ton leafs though.

I am currenlty installing a 10K in the rear behind my bumper, it cannot be seen unless you get under the truck or through the wheelwells.

Reach behind the bumper. Here is a pic, not done yet though. I have since rotated the lever to the rear.

the big ovals will look good but is it a trail rig or street.
i would go with a small round 2 1/4 i think light for the blinker you still have side markerlights so you only need blinkers or find a way to re wire the side markers as running and blinker lights.
winch came out sweet are you reusing the old ramsey on the rear
i remounted mine in the grill check out my build thread

Looks pretty killer. If you need help finding any p/n's for rebuilding it or replacing parts, just let me know. A Warn 9.5 XP motor (6.5 HP) will bolt right up with the exception of the solenoid pack sitting a little crooked.

yeah i read about the 6.5 hp motors on pirate, just gonna run it like it is for now.
