Im going to bild my 77' blazer to be trial and DD with like 35-37" tires
I would like to know what trans you guys would run and why
also please dont say th400 I dont have one and I dont want to buy one

th350
sm465
also what would you do to them to make them work better I know theres not much for the sm465 also I cant afford a nv4500 plus I dont like OD

also it was 3am when I posted this so Im sorry if my grammer sucks ASS!

DD I would go with the th350. I love the 465 I have but shifting all the time is annoying with that transmission's gear spacing. However you dont need to do anything to make a 465 better. The th350, well thats actually a pretty good transmission too so just decided if you want to clutch all the time or not.

Why not a 700R4? Its got a real low first gear (for and auto) and over drive so its almost the best of both worlds.

This would be my choice for a DD. They will hold up well providing you run appropriate axle ratios.

I have 35's and a 700. If I did it again it would be the same combo. For a DD I prefer an auto.

Do you like to shift or not. My blazer is an auto and my pickup is a stick. When I drive the pickup alot I don't even realize I am shifting. I would go SM 465 because they are way reliable

If I had the same commute as I do now. I would go with the 465. I dont want to wheel with anything else now.

I dont like OD trannies I live in the mountains of AZ and I like shifting its fun and I like keeping the trans in the gear I want it in but has anyone had problems with burning up clutches off road I have yet to drive with a 465 off road

I havnt and I normally suck at driving a stick. I guess a doubler helps a lot since you dont use the clutch that much.

SM465 without a doubt.

Clutch lasts fine offroad. Upgrade to a 12" clutch if it isn't already. The granny gear eliminates any need to slip the clutch. I found I'd always use low-range when off pavement (except for well-groomed gravel roads/highways).

I DD a SM465 also.... in town, around town, highway, doesn't matter. I like a transmission that is low maintenance, lasts virtually forever, CHEAP to replace, and doubles the life of my brakes. :D

SM465 is the ONLY way to go! Much more reliable than an auto. Also much stronger and you can get more power to the ground.

Four Six Five.

you're welcome.

i dd one every day, like the other guy said, i don't even notice i'm shifting. it says in whatever gear i want.

For me, I LOVE my SM465 and the 35s on my suburban, so I would say SM465, but it depends on if you like to shift all the time or not.
If you don't like to shift all the time, my vote would be a beefed up 700R4 for the lower first and overdrive too...best of both worlds.
