I am finally convinced i need to off-load the blazer and buy a burb. I would prefer a th400 trans only cuz i have a bunch of cool parts for one, so to get a th400, do i need a certain year and model? also anyone not like the barn doors on the rear? i cant decide if i want them or not.

Well, 87-91 are FI, and th400 is in the 3/4T until 90 IIRC. I you don't want FI, then there are a lot of options, but if you keep it 3/4T before 87, they should all be th400. I have the tailgate on mine, and the window has given me hassles several times. My buddy Carl has the barn doors and there's just almost nothing to go wrong with them. It's just a little annoying to look at the center bar in the rearview mirror. Happy hunting.:D

Thanks for the info. i'm not sure what advantages there may be other than fewer moving parts with the barn doors, i just like the look of them better and my kids can open them without it falling on them. i spent most iof the night looking at craigslist, damn there's alot of them. my plan is at least a 6 inch lift, and swap my d60/14bolt from my 85 onto it. probably stick with the 35's and 4.10 gears since i want one without an o.d. trans.

I have an 85 sub 4.56 60/14 th400/241 tailgate like the tail gate because it rolls down when off-road like the air flow!! I was thinking of downsizeing to a blazer:thinking::thinking::thinking:

I'm a little confused... will a 1990 3/4 ton have a th400? or the 4l80e? the other reason i'm leaning toward the th400 is that i think it may be geared too high for the 4l80e with 35's and 4.10 gears... anyone have an opinion on this? it wouldnt be bad on long trips and flat roads, but those are few and far between

I can't remember for sure if the 4l80e came out in the '90 or '91. I thought the '91 was the only one with the 4l80e, but I'm not sure and haven't had either year personally.:dunno:
And yes, 4.10 and 35's would be pretty tall for an OD trans. I would lean toward 4.88 with OD.

problem is i want to throw my d60/14 bolt combo that i alreay built under it. only have 4.10 gears and dont really want to spend the cash to have it redone with new gears and carriers. i should probably stick with the th400 then.

'91 model 3/4t's got the 4l80e/241. All 3/4t's prior to '91 should have a th400 in them.

My '75 K20 Suburban came with a 400/t350/203 combo, so not all 3/4 tons had t400's.
