gear noise

just replaced carrier and pinion bearing in rear. still have whine even with proper preload and backlash. could the pinoin depth still be off?? the gears where all in good shape, im lost

What did the gear marking compound tell you? IIRC, thats how you tell if pinion depth is correct or not.

it was in between the heel and toe leaning slightly on the toe side should i shim it more to the middle? noise goes away when ive got a good load on it, but under slight load like cruising its pretty loud.
