My 4L60E has 121K miles on it and is starting to whine a little. I'v heard these tranny's have alot of problems so wondering if I should start saving my nickels. Anybody know what the whine is? It only does it in gear and matches the rpm's of the motor. I'm not sure if its been serviced before since I bought it only a few months back.

Sounds like the thrust washers (bushings? bearings?) in the torque converter are shot.

Talk to a tranny shop that you can trust (if you can find one) about your symptom, but I bet the recommendation is to stop driving it before whatever is making the noise comes apart, and puts metal through the entire tranny.

Friend has the exact same thing going on with the 700R4 in his Astro, and our friend who is a tranny shop owner/builder, said to stop driving it immediately, and replace the torque converter.
